Thoughts, opinions, insights? My D accepted for Jan 2008 with option of WMP. If she accepts for Jan 08 but skips WMP, will she be like a transfer: unknown and unloved – – or will she have orientation, etc.? Would love to hear from current students on this. Thanks so much!

I'm a prospective Mom and AU Staff and am a little familiar with the program.

The Washington Mentorship program offers the great opportunity to work in an internship and take seminar type classes with your peers. Unless she has something more compelling to do with her fall semester, it is a truly great opportunity for "experiential learning". Of course, I'm sure there are fees, and I suspect that is your concern. I'm not clear on what credits are earned (you should have more info than I), but it does provide a nice alternative for spring admittance.

They live at the Tenley Campus-- easy free shuttles to main campus, across the street from Metro-- great location.

I believe there are orientations for new spring students, but I am not sure how extensive they are. I'm sure you can call the school and ask what is done for them and how does it compare to the fall admits.

Good luck! My D is a senior, too, and I know how hard these decisions are! Something like Washington Mentorship Program makes it even more confusing!

Thanks, Advisor Mom. While the WMP sounds good, I think I would prefer that my D take some gen ed requirements locally (we have 2 and 4 year state schools in town) and take those credits to AU. I'll be checking with an advisor in the SoC into which she was accepted regarding how good an idea this is. What my D would prefer is an open question. She has 4 acceptances, all of which have pluses and minuses. It's going to be a interesting April!

Thanks again!
