Hi guys, Im a Junior Finance major at Fordham. I never really liked it there to be honest, and found myself coming home every weekend to my home town of Stony Brook. Because I dedicated my weekends to studying and focused real hard I have a 3.7 GPA through 2 years.

I recently began contemplating a Jr. Year spring semester transfer to SBU. It's literally a 20 minute BIKE ride (5 min driving), Im familiar with the area and in general would just simply be happier here than at Fordham. It just didnt work out for me over there.

However, I heard the Business program over at SBU isnt too great :( What would you guys do if you were in my shoes?
Fordham's finance program on the other hand has major banks come and recruit on campus :/

Have you considered transferring to another college in the city? There are many of them that are socially different from where you’re at now. I’m not saying that you have to stay in Fordham, I’m just saying that transferring from a school which is known for it’s business program to one that’s not may not be the best course of action.

P.S. Why don’t you like Fordham? I’m actually a business major here at Stony Brook and am considering applying as a transfer there.

yea I figured its completely counterintuitive, since Fordham is great for accounting, while SBU business program is in its infancy.

Most of the reasons for leaving Fordham arent because of academics, though the core is pretty heavy and the 2 theology class requirement is so wack!

I realized I kind of want that typical, state school experience, rather than this half-campus, half-city environment goin on at Fordham. Yes, there is a campus, but it is absolutely TINY (80 or so acres compared to SBUs 1300 acres), surrounded by the ghetto. So typical “college activities” , such as a pick up game on a sports field are unheard of, considering there are maybe 1 or 2 fields that are used by the sports teams at all times for practice. I genuinely like your guys campus,as I’ll jog past it all the time during my summers.
Actual campus events are few and far between. I know SBU is known as a “commuter school”, but Fordham is even moreso considering how much of the student pop. comes from NYC, Westchester or Western Connecticut, and its felt twice as much here since you guys have double the undergrad population!

For business I would totally recommend Fordham, though you REALLY have to weigh the costs. Fordham will cost you upwards of 55k to dorm here, while SBU is what 7 grand? And in business, youre going to be expected to snag an MBA after a few years of work, which is what really matters careerwise (and costs 100 grand!).

KNowing everything I know now, I would probably opt for the pretty much free ride (scholarship when i was admitted as a freshman) to SBU and study a mix of finance and computer science, rather than pay in excess of 200 grand, on par with the Ivies mind you, yet receive job offers nowhere near those of ivy league grads.
