When is the latest transfer students will hear about housing assignments or lack of? It’s the beginning of December, school starts next month, and I still have yet to hear if USC has housing for me. I understand that transfer students aren’t guaranteed housing, but couldn’t they tell me in a timely manner there are no options so I can begin seriously looking into off campus housing? Right now the possibility of on campus housing makes me unwilling to put money toward another option.
I just find it weird how USC is treating spring admits. I read before that many people felt excluded and now I understand. I feel like a stepchild. There’s very little communication and nothing exciting about this process. My sister started her university in August and was bombarded with communication, welcome packages, and more. I’m over here twiddling my fingers, wondering how I’m starting a school in a month and have no idea what is going on…
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m beyond grateful that I was accepted to this phenomenal school and how generous they’re being with my financial aid package, but I feel a little left out. Especially when I compare my sisters experience leading up to school to mine. It’s a stark difference.
Back to the original topic. Does anyone know the latest I can expect to hear from my negligent step-parent, USC? Lol.
Hey, I feel you. I hated the fact that they admitted me for spring. So much so, that I was getting ready to attend UCLA until I heard that they were creating a new major that is not usually offered at the undergraduate level, so I decided to suck it up. However, I didn’t go down without a fight. I emailed just about every dean I possibly could and even sent a letter to the USC prez (only to get a reply back from the dean of Dornsife, so it makes me think the prez never saw my letter).
Anyway, housing for spring transfers is incredibly limited. I did not get in for any of my choices. However, USC offered me temporary housing in the case a spot opened up elsewhere. I believe I heard sometime in December. If you haven’t heard back by now, it’s likely you might end up getting a similar offer. I didn’t like the sound of it (living with 5 other boys). I don’t mind 1 or 2 roommates, but 4 others was too much for me - especially if it’s a temporary spot that likely isn’t as nice as other housing. I was also grateful with USC’s financial aid package, but they do treat their spring admits rather poorly when it comes to housing =\ If you don’t like the idea of living in temporary housing, it might be best to explore off-campus options.
@zettasyntax Thank you so much for replying! Do you recall how many people would share a bedroom (ex. 2 per room) in the temporary housing?
I’ve been casually looking into off campus housing, but based off of your response I suppose it’s time to get serious about it. It’s kind of a bummer because I was really hoping to live on campus for my first semester and get accustomed to the environment.
@Redbre I It was 3 beds per room, but I seem to recall it being like a suite style room, so there would be another set of 3 dudes across and we’d share the same bathroom and stuff. I guess it’s not quite as bad as I made it sound, but that’s a little too social for me. I was just hoping I’d have 1 roommate and that’s it. The temporary spot also required a meal plan (which I thought was ridiculous if it was indeed “temporary”).
I so wanted to live on-campus my first semester as well. I feel like I missed out on a lot (office hours, events, etc.) because I had to worry about commuting. I only live ~9 miles away from USC, so it’s not I actually needed housing; I just thought it would be so much more convenient. If you have any other questions, let me know I think the temporary spot was in one of the freshmen housing, but not one of the popular ones (I never heard of it until receiving the email about my assignment).
