Was anyone else admitted to MHC as a spring admit? What do you think about it? MHC is my top choice but I’m really sad to find out that I most likely won’t be able to start in the fall. I’ll have to miss moving in and meeting everyone, and all of the fall traditions! The thing I’m most worried about is the classes, how am I supposed to catch up on an entire semester’s worth of classes? It just seems really unrealistic and puts spring admits at a major social and academic disadvantage.
Congratulations on your admission to Mount Holyoke. The spring admit option has been available for at least 50 years. You have the chance to take your first semester at another institution so that you will have the number of credits needed to graduate with your class. While it is a bummer to miss the fall traditions, you should be aware that Mountain Day at Mount Holyoke is now celebrated worldwide. One beautiful day in the fall the college bells ring at 7 am. Classes are cancelled, the library is locked and sandwich makings appear. You are expected to spend the day in the surrounding countryside (such as with a visit for doughnuts to Atkins Farm Market) or hiking up Mount Holyoke where ice cream served by the President of the College awaits at the summit. The word goes out over the internet and Mount Holyoke alumnae and students assemble at a local ice cream parlor at precisely 18:37 pm. I’m sure you could find a Mountain Day celebration to join in the area where you choose to spend your first semester. If Mount Holyoke is your first choice (and it should be), don’t miss out on the opportunity to attend simply because you will be among the group in your class that starts in the spring.
