Spring Awakening Auditions - Non MT songs!

Hello! Spring Awakening is my fall musical this year, and for vocal auditions the department head gave us a list of artists to choose an upbeat and a ballad.
I am very unfamiliar with most of these artists. So if you could help it would surely be appreciated!

The Presidents of the United States
Reliant K
The Black Keys
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sublime
Green Day
Blink 182
Bad Religion
Pennywise
Avril Lavigne
Simple Plan
The Strokes
Fiona Apple
Nirvana
Jane's Addiction
Pearl Jam
Smashing Pumpkins
The Ramones
Howie Day
Shawn Colvin
Duncan Shiek (composed Spring Awakening)
Lisa Hannigan

Thank you!

What is your question?

If it is “how do you go about finding a song.” I would suggest creating a Pandora station with these artists. You will get to hear songs by these and similar artists.

Once you find a song you like go on musicnotes, sheetmusicplus, or another online site that allows you to purchase the downloadable sheet music.

Break a leg.

Great suggestion. There are similar services to Pandora if that doesn’t work for you for some reason. I like Spotify myself but any of them should do it.

Well I should have said that these were suggestions pushing us into the alternative rock genre. I’ve listened to the soundtrack of Spring Awakening and have gotten a feel for it.
I think I’ve decided for my ballad: While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles

But I have yet to find an up beat song.

a friend of mine sang “just like the movies” and the director raved about it being a wonderful choice for SA

For my Spring Awakening audition this time last year, I cottoned more to the folk side of the score and sang River by Joni Mitchell. Though I don’t know what the creative team thought of it, I did get cast!
