i went to the audition with my boyfriend and good guy friend...it was a blast, and the best thing about it was the wonderful people i met who i became friends with...i even met a kid from CC which was crazy!!
the audition was fun...SO short...i had never had a 16 bar audition before, so that was interesting.....but no callbacks for us. i saw one girl who got a callback for the role of Ilse...but other than that, just guys got callbacks...there were more than 300 people there...i saw someone with the number 381....so yep...it was a great expereince! so much fun!!

tashmu, that's correct about them looking for future replacements. Equity is required to hold replacement auditions every six months. Although no one is slated to leave the show at the moment, two of the kids are leaving to attend college in the fall so the callbacks will probably focus on those roles, although not exclusively.

Only one of the girls would be set to leave college next year, and she's deferring a year to be in the show. So I don't believe anyone is leaving before the fall.

I actually believe one of the guys is leaving in the fall to go to college. I know the girl is deferring but I'm pretty sure (last time I heard) the guy is leaving.

It's possible that something has changed recently but a couple of weeks ago, Lauren Pritchard who is a friend of my D, told her that both Remy and Gideon were leaving for college. Although, as I said, these are the usual Equity future replacement open calls, and I know that many of the callbacks were for characters other than the ones Remy and Gideon play. At least one of the callbacks at the Boston auditions was for Moritz.

We met Gideon at the very first audition; he is SO NICE!!!! And a GREAT singer. We didn't see him at the callbacks; maybe he couldn't make the callback for that day, but obviously he was called back since he got the part.
I'm so happy for him. We're seeing the show May 5 (I think). Can't wait!!

Remy is a mutual friend of mine, and she is deferring a year from Columbia. She isn't leaving this year.

I heard people were called back for Moritz in Chicago as well.
I know Remy is definitely staying but I'm pretty sure (last time I heard) that Gideon is leaving.

Today's Backstage audition notice for this show was just posted: I can't copy & paste it so you will need to access Backstage if interested.
It's April 29th in NYC.

~

Melsmom,

The audition dates were available several weeks ago, including the one in NYC. I posted the date on 3/29 earlier in this thread. :) The details for the location are:

New Dance Group
305 West 38th Street (at 8th Avenue), 2nd Floor
New York, NY 10018
11 A.M.

Bring a recent picture and prepare a short folk/alt. rock song. Bring sheet music, accompanist provided.

Call 212-719-9393 x373 for more info!

The NY open call is likely to be packed, both with kids who have tons of experience, as well as every teen-aged theatre fan in the area. :) I know of several Tisch kids who have appointments arranged, but the show up and get a number kids will probably exceed the crowds in the other cities. If your kids are planning on going, get there EARLY!!

I dropped my daughter and 4 of her classmates from BoCo off at the audition this morning at 6:30 a.m and there was already a line almost around the block at that time. She said there were between 200 -300 at that time. She called a little while ago and said the line was over three blocks long! It's absolutely crazy! You'd think this was American Idol or something! There were people with lawn chairs and blankets that looked like they slept there overnight. Many, many parents with children.

I went today in NYC. It was a VERY wierd experience. I was in the first group to go and no one really knew what was going on and it was very very rushed. They were typing like no other (understandable) but luckily I wasn't typed out.
I doubt anything will come of it but I can now say my first Broadway audition is over....
I heard there were about 1,000 in total today.

i read about the audition on facebook! SOOOO many people got typed out today...even ones who you wouldn't normally think looked wrong for the show!! its so crazy!!
and i heard about 1,200 people auditioned...and i guess they had no callbacks??

It was crazy! There was like 938690360 people there! So crazy. I had an awesome time, and I didn't get typed out which was a huge relief.

Does anyone knew who the man was in Room A? I heard Tom Hulce, the producer, but I'm not sure now..

Is that the same Tom Hulce who played Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the movie called "Amadeus?" I wonder if he can still do that maniacal laugh ....

At 7:30, there were 750 kids in line ahead of my son...and by 9:30, there were another 500+ behind him. Quite a turnout. At least they were given times to come back, so you didn't have to wait on the street all day. Very sad for all the kids that were type cast out. At least my son had a chance to audition. Went well he said...for what its worth. He enjoyed the experience. I felt bad watching all those kids walking out, after not getting a chance to sing.

Pretty exciting morning on 38th.....and 39th streets
