What are your sons and/or daughters planning to do? I have a d who is a senior in HS, and I am wondering where other parents are allowing their kids to go. Thank you in advance.

I go to Florida every spring break with my habitat for humanity group. we do their collegiate challenge and build houses for a week. We each pay $100 for the trip, and our housing, transportation, and food is provided. We rent vans and drive down, which is great.. at the beginning you barely know anybody, and by the time you get down to florida you're buds with everyone in your van.. and by the end of the week you're buds with everyone on the trip. We typically stay at churches.. they loan us a sleeping area for the week, although once we stayed at a college apartment complex.. also, because it's a school affiliated trip, we don't drink alchohol - AT ALL.

last year we went to Miami, and the year before to West Palm Beach.

didnt know this was the parents forum. i just went to the "new posts" link. anyway, just thought i'd say i was going to london and paris for 8 days with some other seniors at my school...cant wait.

Whatever you do, do not let your high school senior or junior go to Cancun for Spring Break. When I went down there it was probably half people in their 20s like me and half 17 and 18 year olds getting bombed off there asses. Not that I minded, but if I was a parent, there would be no way in hell I would let a high schooler go to Cancun. Its even more crazy than the Girl's Gone Wild vidoes, trust me on this one.

My daughters high school backpacks for 2 -3 weeks through Canyonlands , during spring break. The juniors take a much more rigorous trek to the Flying Dutchman mine etc. obstensibly to get them ready for the challenges of senior year, while the seniors take a more relaxing journey through the Mezatzels. Both groups also stay on the Navaho Indian reservation, places where many rarely go.She had a great time, even though they had to drink filtered water etc. Chaco canyon was beautiful :)

the senior spring break trip each year is to the bahamas at my school. i know a lot of parents cringe to think of their kids going away unsupervised, and at spring break of all times, but when you think about it, if you're willing to let your kids move out in fall, then they can probably handle themselves for a week in the spring.

oh i forgot to add, my high school senior trip was to Orlando for a week. we went to disney world for some days, universal studios, had dinner at medieval times as well as a dance there afterwords.

My boys are 17 and 18 and are h.s. junior and senior respectively. We just order tix for Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway! -The movie inspired us, time to see it again!-

Fendergirl; That 's great! Be careful and don't hurt yourself. What do you do for them?

what do we do for what? our habitat trip?

I mean, are you climbing on the roof and using nail guns? Be careful.

my freshman year we framed an entire house.

my soph year we put on a roof (literally the wood part of it), put some insulation around the outsides of the house, and installed all of the doors and windows, as well as painted the outside of another house.

my junior year we primered the outside of a 2 story house (which was a pain in the butt, had to constantly take apart scaffolding and move it around), cleaned up lots where they were going to lay the foundation for other houses, moved around supplies into different trailers, built shelves for inside the houses, and then painted the house it's finished color.

this year we are supposed to be doing house framing.

it's a great trip. the future homeowners, as well as homeowners from other habitat houses, help out with the building, and we have some contractors and stuff that help out and give instructions.

plus all years we spent plenty of time at the beach when we werent working :) soph year we went to a spring training baseball game, i got a free laptop, and hung out with some friends in florida. junior year we had a lot of fun going downtown in miami to the shops and whatnot.

Wow, you sound like you are Amish.

haha, nope :) seriously though, it's a great trip. and it's different from what most people do for spring break. and it does good for the community - so why not :)
