Having completed work on my fall schedule, I have begun working on a potential Spring schedule. Give the classes that I will be taking in the fall, my Spring schedule should be as follows...

-Math 53
-Chem 1B
-Physics 7A
-E 7

Is this schedule doable? What would the workload be like for this schedule? I noticed that all four classes have discussions/labs associated with them. Will this be a pretty typical engineering schedule or could I be overdoing it?

As of now I’m Undeclared Engineering but I’m highly considering Engineering Physics or Materials Science.

For the fall, in Phase I I registered for Chem 1A, Chem 1AL, French R1A, E 92, and E 98. For Phase II, I plan to register for Math 1B.

What would you suggest I do to create a slightly more manageable spring semester? I definitely don’t want to overdo it and put myself in a hole so early in my career at Berkeley.

I also didn’t really want to take E 7 in the fall because I have heard that it is far easier in the spring and that the workload in the fall in insane.

Try to take Physics 7A in the fall and if you know you can’t do it after the first week, drop it.

And if you have taken any sort of Physics class in high school, also crash into Prof. Gronsky’s E45 class and try to take it. It’s another lab class in addition to Chem 1AL, but Gronsky is really the professor you want to have for E45 to learn properly AND get good grades.

Physics is a more important prerequisite for advanced courses in either of your two more likely majors than chemistry is. If you can complete both Physics 7A and 7B and Engineering 45 this year, you may be better able to make a decision on your major than if you only complete Physics 7A.

So maybe:

Semester 1:
Math 1B
Physics 7A
French R1A
Engineering 92
Engineering 98
possibly one more course (e.g. H/SS without term project, or other low workload course)

Semester 2:
Math 53
Physics 7B
Engineering 45
any one of H/SS, R&C B, Chemistry 1A+1AL, Engineering 7, etc…
