As a parent of a possible UConn student, how did Spring Weekend go? I heard the campus was almost on lockdown mode after last year.

One more day, but:

[UConn students say Spring Weekend tamer, lamer than past years - NewsTimes](http://www.newstimes.com/news/article/UConn-students-say-Spring-Weekend-tamer-lamer-1349864.php)

The security around the campus and Storrs is EXTREMELY tight. They have police checking for drunks everywhere.
Hope this can reassure you a little bit.

From what I’ve read in the newspaper, most of the people that got in trouble were not UConn students (except I’m pretty sure one of the UConn students that DID, was a basketball player). Honestly, I wouldn’t be too worried because it seems like your child could avoid the Spring Weekend festivities if he/she did not want to participate in the partying. I’m pretty sure all the students received text message warnings about the consequences of rambunctious behavior, as well.

Totally locked down. My girlfriend headed home and her friends did also. She said many students simply left just to avoid any of the issues that have been ocurring in the past few years. It seems like things didn’t go as bad as recent years but many arrest did occur. Good move by Uconn. They should do the same for next year and then gradually relax the restrictions but at the same time keeping it safe.

I honestly don’t know whats wrong with Connecticut students. Why are they so destructive to the campus and their selves. Heavy drinkers, rioters, etc… even when the Huskies win…

Wow I didn’t realize this was an issue. That’s still a lot of arrests for a college campus.

I would encourage everyone to look at what happens on other campuses before making assumptions about relative arrests.

Also, most of the arrested people were outsiders and not students at UConn.

Uconn is known to get wild “ThePhilosopher”. I doubt more than a handful list of colleges get 30 or so a rest when the school is on “lockdown” of its spring Weekend. Last year without the lockdown they got 80 or more arrests and a death of a student. When even your Basketball player (Jamal Coombs) is involved in a cannabis-possesion controversy this Spring weekend it is obvious that the school students at the school are also crazy and its not only outsiders.

While Uconn tries to play it off and blame outsiders as the cause of the vandalism and violence on campus. Many students themselves take act on this. Look at the Huskies National Championship two weeks ago. North Quad had every single light pole down, couches burned, garbage cans set on fire. Celeron Apartments cause trouble every spring weekend. I think Uconn students have a lot of involvement on the bad things that happen across campus.

Great school academically nonetheless, but socially it gets out of hand. How do I know this things? My girlfriend attends the school so I got a good overall view of what happens up there

While all of that may be true to a certain extend, it is not that bad. I do not mean to disrespect your opinion, I am just stating mine. Two of my friends have recently graduated from UConn, so I have a pretty good idea of what goes on there too.

To a certain extent*
