My son was accepted but the notification says the financial aid package is in the mail so we don’t yet know if it will actually be affordable. We’re cautiously optimistic though.

Dennroo’s experience demonstrates that admission decisions are not just about statistics or who is the"better" candidate. It’s very personalized and includes that indescribable “fit.”

It’s very interesting that Dennroo was accepted at a very prestigious school after 6 rejections last year. Congratulations. And repeat applicants, take heart.

sorry if it wasn’t clear, I was waitlisted at St.Paul’s

@alooknac

We, too, were wait listed. I think the selection criterium is somewhat unknowable. That said, I can understand how difficult it must be to decide who gets it and who doesn’t. (Or who is wait listed). The encouraging thing I see is how many ambitious young people there are committed to making a difference. If anyone has insight on this topic, I’m all ears. For example, what are the odds one will be admitted from the wait list?

In the thread at the top of the forum, most people think it’s low. There’s quite a few pages but it’s worth a read.

Wait-listed.

It seems like everyone that applied to SPS and was on here was wait-listed… interesting. I’m just hoping I get off the wait-list, since this is the only school I applied for.

There are some schools–Deerfield for certain, and perhaps SPS, that are very yield conscious. They are looking for indications (esp the “first choice letter”) that the yield will be there if you are accepted. If they have a feeling that you will go elsewhere, then WL or R will be the fate of your application.

I have written a post on the wait list thread about what to do if you are on the WL.

Making it on the WL is no small accomplishment–so well done, you. The difference between an A and the WL can be just that you didn’t play the tuba or your brother went to PA. Silly, I know, that that’s often how it goes–

+1 for etondad’s comments.

Be comforted in knowing that you were deemed fully qualified, but the arithmetic of 6 applicants vying for every single SPS admissions spot made for an especially brutal version of ‘musical chairs’.

I’ll be taking my name off the waitlist so hopefully this shortens it and if their yield is lower, creates some movement on the waitlist(I know this isn’t how it works but I can hope).
Good luck to you Lassiter.
