Recently, Charles Lin wrote a hilarious column about a fictional MIT student on the recent U.S. Airways plane that crashed into the Hudson in New York. It's titled "I am so not going to spend the last minute of my life doing 8.01," and you can access it here:
Squid vs. Whale - The Tech

Charles Lin edits the "Squid vs. Whale" column, which usually presents tongue-in-cheek entries on campus life.
Enjoy.

So I hate flying, and it scares me when the plane banks because I used to worry that the wings would fall off. My freshman year in 8.01, we did a problem on the bank angle actually required to make a plane's wings fall off, and every time I flew after that for several years, I would do that calculation in my head.

Now I fly with my dashing airplane-designing husband, and he soothes me with statistics about the tolerances built into passenger airliners when I start to freak.
