I recently took the Upper-level SSAT. I scored 95 percentile and 98 percentile in math and reading, but 76 percentile in verbal. My total percentile is 95. Is this too much of a score difference? I’m applying to Stanford ohs.
It’s not optimal, but it’s your overall that does the real talking. I’m sure it won’t affect your acceptance decision. Not everyone can be good at every subject, AND THAT’S ALRIGHT. Private schools take so much mor into account that the discrepency between your math, reading, and verbal scores, you did well on the test overall and that’s really all that matters.
95 percentile is good. Stanford OHS is a good school as well, my daughter got accepted off the waitlist last year so don’t hesitate to DM me if you have any questions.
Thank you so much. I was shocked to see that verbal score because I had done better on the practice tests, but knowing that Stanford OHS looks at the whole picture makes me feel better. I’ll definitely DM you if I have any doubts.
No problem at all! I wish you the best of luck!

A question though. Did your daughter take the SSAT? If so what was her score?
She took the SSAT in middle school and received around the 98 percentile, I’m not sure the exact number. However, for Stanford OHS we submitted her PSAT scores. She was in the 98th percentile again for 8/9 PSATs. I think that in your case a score discrepancy doesn’t reflect your full ability as it seems you scored highly otherwise, but if you’re really not sure, try using test innovators, you might find Stanford OHS average SSAT scores there.
I scored on a similar-ish ratio (87 on verbal, but 98 on total), and I think you’re fine. If they do take a look, I’d assume they’d see your reading score is quite high and in my personal opinion, if your reading is good w/o a huge vocab, who cares? A good vocab is still important, but I don’t think it’s a huge concern w/ a good reading, math and total score.
@CrackersCrayons May I ask what prep materials (online and books) that your daughter used to prepare for SSAT and PSAT? Thanks!
She didn’t prepare for either before she took them, she didn’t really want to. However, Khan Academy has proved useful for many of her peers, so it may work well for you!
@CrackersCrayons Thank you!
No problem
I scored a 95% as well! I hope this is enough
