So, I was wondering, how much will a bad to mediocre SSAT score affect your overall app? For example, would it be enough for the school to reject you?

You know, people will post all kinds of advice and answers, but really, nobody knows. There are MANY schools that will accept you with “mediocre” scores (I"m thinking 50th percentile is “mediocre”).

I am sure there are a fair number of schools that accept strong candidates with low SSAT scores, but it’s just a feeling I have, I can’t prove it.

Do some elite schools have an absolute cutoff? Who knows? Just remember, if the “average” SSAT score at a top-notch school is 85%, a lot of successful applicants got lower than 85%.

If you look on boardingschoolreview.com and sort by SSAT scores, below 45% that column is just blank. So schools–or somebody–doesn’t want you to know that some schools’ average SSAT score is under 45%. Or maybe they just want to de-emphasize test scores…(There are a lot of schools with the SSAT score column blank and it tends to be the lesser known schools)

Test scores are ONE FACTOR among many. And there are so many great schools out there! Don’t get all hung up on the big names!
