Favorite characters? Tactics?

I liked the original better... :)

The problem was that the original had a couple of issues:
Ness's lightning charge thing (PK thunder redirected at yourself) was "priority 0" (i.e., no attack had precedent over it, no matter what)
Pikachu's Quick Attack = invincibility
Yoshi's aerial Down-A had no delay
These and other things made it possible to exploit certain characters (no one used Mario once Luigi was unlocked, for example).

=P

I'm kind of a SSBM Renaissance Man, I use a crapload of characters...best with Sheik, Marth, and Pikachu though.

In the original, Samus all the way. I dunno, she seems to fall slower than most non-balloon characters, so her meteor attack pwns. Not to mention, you know, shooting stuff.

Pikachu all the way for me lol
best forward smash reach of non-sword characters
0-delay Up-A aerial
High-priority Down-A aerial
Low-delay Up-A smash
Max damage in one hit: 40%
Best recovery (besides Kirby & Jigglypuff)

Personally, I believe Marth is a little, er, unbalanced...I mean, his forward smash has low delay, high power, and long range, he has a counter, AND he's really fast...

But Sheik and Peach are great when properly used (i.e., when I'm NOT the one using them lol)

Fox

If you can exploit his speed, he just kicks ass. Just start pulling combos with his deflector, up smash, and grabs.

I've never seen anyone use Peach effectively...

What exactly can she do...? Her smashes pretty much suck, her vegetable attack is retarded and does like 3 damage, her parasol is similar, her Peach Bomber is decent but slow and has crappy range. I guess her Toad shield thing might be useful but there are better defensive moves out there.

btw tanonev, how does Pikachu do 40% in one hit? Is that the fully charged up skull bash?

"I've never seen anyone use Peach effectively..."

I met him at Caltech Prefrosh Weekend...he'll be going to MIT for grad school in the fall...

Down-Smash max damage: 70% (!!!)
And he can throw turnips way too accurately (I got turnip KO'd...oh, the shame lol)
AND he does all of Peach's float combos...

Geez, that's nuts...I thought Peach's down smash was just her spinning around and doing like 10 damage...

I didn't know it was possible for a turnip (not a moldy or otherwise altered one) to KO someone...

What are some of the float combos?

Peach is the ultimate aerial fighter because she can chain 5-6 aerial attacks in one sweep (each attack doing about 10%...go figure)

Pikachu can do 40% in limited circumstances. If someone is standing INSIDE or IMMEDIATELY BELOW the cloud that forms when Pikachu uses Down-B, they take 40% + get knocked up. Only works on Temple and Ice Climbers stage

(man, i love this game)

If you duck when Peach uses down-smash, you take multiple hits = lots and lots of damage. That includes ducking to use a down-B attack.

The thing is, the only way you can get beyond a perfectly-timed turnip assault is to wave-dance, which I can't do...so I have to roll in. The problem with that is that rolling in puts you within range of down-smash, and Pikachu's down-smash (average damage, 2%) can't possibly counter it.

Float combo 1: float just out of reach of opponent, close in horizontally, down-A, A, pursue, back-A, back-A, (continue until you run out of float or opponent gets knocked off).

Float combo 2: float just out of reach of opponent, close in horizontally, down-A (release float halfway through), down-smash (C-stick)

I can't do either of them...I just know they work because he used both of them against me and utterly destroyed me

What in the sam hell are you people talking aboot?

Super Smash Bros Melee! The best multiplayer game ever!

I play as Kirby. :)
Best aerial ability, and I totally abuse that. I'm also a bit of an item hog, mostly Pokeballs and the sword-type weapons (beam sword, wand, flower).
I'm also good as Link, Young Link, Marth, Roy and Samus.

oh man, I haven't played super smash brothers for years... what an awesome game! kirby and fox were so kickass.

Kirby, try playing w/o items sometime :) It's an entirely different experience...

Also, I discovered the wonderful (and humbling) challenge of taking on 3 level-9 Marths at once, with no items...try on both Temple and Final Destination...

I just wish the computer wasn't so idiotic...even level-9s can be induced to selfdestruct...

My favorite character to use is Roy. As to tactics, I generally try to act like Marth... XD Just kidding. Well, using Roy is a lot like using Marth, except he smashes and stays on the ground a lot more often. No specific tactics... pop 'em up into the air and improvise.

Peach is a good character... in a higher tier than Roy anyway. I don't like Pikachu very much, because he's slow and a light weight. But then I guess Pichu is worse. As to Kirby... the reason I don't like him is because he's too light, and his roll isn't very fast. And also I get my butt kicked if I use him against my brother.

Pikachu? "slow"? I never noticed that lol...If you use Up-B properly, you can cover a lot of ground...and Pikachu's aerial attacks, while weak, are all pretty fast...
