I just came back from a visit to Scotland and love the country and love St. Andrews. I was just wondering if you guys could help me out, or direct me somewhere where my questions could be answered.

On the US/Canada only direct application (for if you aren't applying to any other UK schools) it says "if you have excess of a 1300 on your SATs you should expect admission." Does anyone know how true this is? Also, does anyone know what test scores/grades they look for in US applicants (as I'm unfamiliar with A-levels and all that)? Additionally, is the Intl Relations program especially competitive?

And last but not least...how much does St. Andrews cost for an Intl Student? I looked on the website, but it basically says if you are accepted you will be informed of tuition fees.

sorry, im not much help about the american aspect of this, but as a brit who graduated from st andrews this summer, i would say go to st andrews, it's the greatest place on earth. it's very different from most uni's, loads of traditions (including the 'everyday' red gowns), lots of parties, you feel like you know everyone as the place is small, and the students completely own the town! 95% of students fall in love with the place, and a third leave with their future husband/wife (highest rate in UK!).

IR is quite sought after, but with fairly decent grades you should be able to get in.

I'm going to Edinburgh this fall, and for me, it was about $17,000 (I highly doubt St. Andrews is much more than that). That's way cheaper than $40,000 in the US. Most internationals do not receive aid, but with tuition that low, most don't need it.

The SAT certainly isn't the only thing they look at. St. Andrews might be a bit different from Edinburgh, but Edinburgh also looked at SAT II's or AP's. However, if you're a pretty solid student with above a 1300, you should have no problem.

NatalyaBoberto -- thanks! Your answer was really helpful. Is it sad that i saw $17,000 a year and thought "what a bargan?" :-p I think I'm going to give the admissions office a call this week and see if they can answer some of my questions.
