Hello, so I am currently a senior and am hoping to get a great scholarship (hopefully 30k) to St Johns.
I dont qualify for financial aid so I am hoping for the merit one.
I am 23/927 Top 2% of my school with a 99.6% average.
I have a 28 ACT score. I am taking many AP classes & Honors.
Do you think I will get a good scolarship (the one I want), based on these scores.
Please tell me your experiences
The upper quartile at St. John’s in Queens is an ACT 29+.
$30k would seem unlikely since that’s over 3/4 tuition. Doubt that they’re giving over 1/4 of their students such huge awards. I’m guessing that you’d get about $15-20k per year…the avg merit award is about $18k per year.
How much will your parents pay?
My Parents are willing to pay 10k. So If i can get 30k that would be great. I have really high transcript score- really its only the ACT.
I will also apply to other private schools and I heard if you get a higher scholarship you can match it. I will try to do that. And I heard if you go up to the admissions office and ask for more money, they usually give it if you don’t qualify for any financial aid. Hopefully, It will work out.
Right now, on the St Johns Net Cost Calculator, they are saying with my scores, I would get a 23K Merit. I just need 5k more of a scholarship and my parents will pay the rest.
What do you think? Is it possible?
Would you entertain the possibility of getting a part-time afterschool job to contribute to the cost. You can also borrow $5500 as a freshman (3500 would be subsidized, meaning the interest is paid by the federal govt while you are in school. If you borrowed the 3.5k sub, then you could get a job to earn the other 2k to close the gap
Don’t count on this at all. This sounds very naive.
Based on your scores, I think you have a good chance at getting a good merit scholarship. Your scores are close to mine and I received a scholarship of almost $30K from them
