I put down a deposit for admission at St. lawrence Unversity in Canton, NY a few weeks ago. They gave me an awesome financial aid package that makes the tuition about the same as a SUNY school. Two weeks go by and I got into both Cornell's Arts & Sciences and Agriculture and Life Sciences. I'm split between the professor contact I'll have at St. Lawrence and the opportunities I'll have at Cornell. Any advice? (I will be premed with a major in either biochem or molecular bio).

Don't know if it makes a difference but I will be a Junior. I'm transferring from a CC in upstate NY.

Go to Cornell,...Awesome premed program, great opportunities!
To be honest, never heard of St. Lawrence...

How did you get into both Arts and Sciences and Agriculture and Life Sciences? I thought you could only apply to one? At any rate, I wouldn't go to Cornell for pre-med since the courses there are so ridiculously tough. You'll be working so much harder to get As than you would at St. Lawrence. Additionally, it sounds like you already know the professors at St. Lawrence fairly well. I'd take St. Lawrence.

but then again... where is premed not ridiculously tough?

thats a good pt...but you want to pick the environment best suited for you. Premed is always hard and needs a lot of studying, but the classes DEFINITELY can be easier by how its taught and how competitive your class is.

don't go to cornell for prestige, go to the place which makes you feel most comfortable

Right, UM's right on. I'll tweak it slightly.

Don't go to Cornell just for the prestige, but don't avoid it just because of perceived difficulty, either. Look for the place where you feel like you'll get the best education.

Visited Cornell today and had a woman in Arts & Sciences tell me that even though I was holding an acceptance letter to both schools and even thought cornell's website says "Congratulations!" and goes on to tell me I'm in at Arts & Sciences, I'm not in at Arts & Sciences. That said, I really really really loved the campus/environment. The libraries are stunning, the campus is stunning, and they seem to take more care in acclimating their transfers into campus life. I really feel that Agricuture and Life Sciences at Cornell would be a better fit for me at this point although St. Lawrence would be a good choice as well. Is there any drawback med school wise to attending one of the Land Grant colleges instead of one of the endowed colleges at Cornell?

Just to clarify, my acceptance into Arts & Sciences was due to "a mistake in the new computer system" and so I was accepted into Agriculture and Life Sciences as opposed to Arts & Sciences.

Go to the school you feel you would be happiest in. That is the school you will most likely succeed at.
