Does anyone know about St. Mary's College? Graduation rate? Accessibility to Notre Dame campus? Are there any guys in class. My D is not too keen on an all girls school if no men are allowed at all.
Can anyone out there comment

It is my understanding that SMC students can take classes at UND and vice versa. Also, SMC is across the street from UND…but the main part of the campus is set rather far back from the road, making the distance seem a bit longer. Students from SMC are welcome at most UND events. SMC is a good school with a beautiful campus and great programs. Women are encouraged AND expected to do their best here…always a plus for a campus, IMHO.

My daughter is in her third year and will not have any problem graduating in May 2011. Classes are small, so there is a lot of personal attention. Classes are not easy. The profs expect full effort. There are some Notre Dame and Holy Cross men attending classes at SMC. Saint Mary’s was not my daughter’s first choice. She was cold on going to an all woman’s college, but she is a big Fighting Irish fan and attends all home football and basketball games. Plenty of dorm parties at ND her first two year and house parties this year. SMC is not for everyone, but it’s education is outstanding and the Saint Mary’s name carries a lot of weight, especially in health care and education. You pay for what you get. Getting the first job is based on the school’s reputation. SMC has a great name, solid education and is a great value.

SMC is the BEST of both worlds: single sex and coed (ND), small school and large school (ND). All the benefits of a small, nurturing, personal, engaging strong private school education PLUS a large university right across the street. I graduated 25+ years ago from SMC, and it is a great school!

Excellent education! Prepares you well for the real world and to be a contributor. Made that walk a million times to ND… not an issue at all (except when it is cold and then you take the shuttle). Had friends from ND take classes with us at SMC and vice versa. Many clubs are joint with ND, including the newspaper. 5 stars in my book…

I second what all the fine posters above me have stated. Our family loves Saint Mary’s!!!
