St. Olaf class of 2018

Hi you all,

I hope you all get to your dream school. Recently I just got admitted to St. Olaf '18 and feel quite excited since I read that this is a school which can 100% meet your need.

I am an international student from Asia and have NOT been informed about my financial aid package yet.
Has ST. Olaf ever NOT met full need of an intl student? And what kind of students will fit in?

I am worried about the aid, because I also got admitted to Grinnell but it only gives my 10k/year. Though it is stated that this school will meet full need of all admitted students :( I am pretty upset about this. So I am kinda worried that St.Olaf can be the same.

Can you please answer my questions. Thank you

They won’t pay 100 percent if that’s what your asking

I claim to contribute 21k,
So will Olaf meets the rest of the attendance cost?

On their website, they said they are committed to meet 100% need (different from pay 100%). Am so worried that they may break the commitment like Grinnell did.

“Full need” includes loans, work-study, grants and scholarships. It’s not like they just give you a rolled up wad of bills. (But it feels like it, sometimes).

You don’t tell them what you can pay they determine what you should be able to pay then meet that need with aid including loans.

Hey @Lovelylife96, how did you find out the decision - via online portals or what ? I haven’t received mine.
Thanks for answering :D

@thinktry: via email, cuz i am an intl student  you should ask. the decision is available online on March 21.

Thank you @Lovelylife96 ! By the way, I agree with the posters above, “meet full need” depends on each school, and sometimes it doesn’t mean anything. Because schools decide how much they can invest in us – then give us that much aid to meet “that full (their full) need”.
Good luck ! Oh and DID St.Olaf give you an online account ?

yes Olaf gave me an online account. Finally, the package come, and it’s wayyy lower than other colleges that don’t claim to meet full need in their policy. :(( I am trying to figure out how to write a nice letter asking for more money

Hey @Lovelylife96, I am also trying to write a nice letter to ask for more financial help.
I submitted my CSS profile and I’m wondering if I overestimated my family assets :frowning:
What financial aid documents did you submit ?
Let’s talk about it to feel less stressed !
