Any sign up for revisits yet? SPS does a two day thing…I think we signed up for the Sunday/Monday one…

Winterset thanks so much, that post was really nice. I got your PM. I’ll answer that in a sec. Thanks for everything !

Same here.

One admitted student’s parent was concerned about their teen getting home for vacations. If you were not aware, SPS runs chartered buses to New York (Penn Station and JFK) and Boston (Logan Airport and South Station. For full details go to page 80 of this year’s Student Handbook. [Student Handbook 2010-11](http://www.sps.edu/flipbook/student_handbook_2010-11/index.html)
Our son took the bus to Connecticut on occasion and enjoyed it. They are regular interstate tour buses, not yellow school buses.

waitlisted :/

I am aware of three more on the waitlist (AngEverlasting, kraordrawoh and now ohxwowxlovely). That makes 11 SPSCCers. I know several will drop off the list for a school that admitted them. When the dust settles, I may post the full list for admits and w/l people again. But I hate to fill pages with the corrected corrected updated lists. ** Let me know if I left anyone else off. **

I have received a number of private messages and will try to get back to people as quickly as I can. Feel free to ask other parents and students here, or find one of the people in the Sheldon Society and email them (all Student Admissions Officers, and they arrange the tours and work on the revisits). https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=109998&rc=1

Every year Rector Bill Matthews reads the following quote from Sir Francis Drake. It is well worth repeating here:
Worth thinking about. Personally I think you are all prepared to sail far from your own safe shores. Congratulations!

I like to invite all the selected/wl applicants to come experience the Deerfield Difference! Warn you, be prepared to see what’s possible! :D

pulsar: So nice of you to visit. You may not be aware that I encouraged and advised GreenMachine to start the Deerfield thread on CC. I even gave him advice on how to make it grow, provided him with links and told him what to avoid. This predated your arrival on CC. I did the same for people with a couple of other schools. That thread is doing well, but I have steered clear, even though a former Headmaster is a close friend. I love you, but no poaching or … well… whatever.

Hey guys!
I am currently a 3rd former(freshman) at SPS. If any of you have any questions, don’t hesitate to message/ comment here!

I look forward to seeing all of you guys next year!

GO BIG RED

I’m a third former at SPS too, and I’d love to answer anything!

How easy to wrangle an student overnight stay during revisits? Is this frowned upon? Common? Both?

Since SPS’s “Spring Visit” is a 2 day thing, it seems like it might be relatively simple to arrange…and I think it would be a valuable experience for any student considering the school.

Since I’m a third former, this will be my first experience with revisits from the other side of it. Since the included night is a school night, I feel like this would be pretty hard to swing unless you were a sibling. But its worth a shot! Maybe email the director of admissions?

I know in my dorm on weeknights people generally either do homework in their rooms until about 11 or 12 and then retire (depending on grade level, amount of hw) or there are two groups that always convene in certain dorm rooms and do homework in each other’s company. Everyone is welcome, it just always works out that way. Around check in a lot of people generally hang out in the common room talking to the advisor and each other, and sometimes hang out in the common room talking all night. But it is the luck of the draw, really. If people have a lot of homework or are feeling grumpy or whatever, it could just be a really boring night of homework.

Still, worth a shot!

@spsforever: We’d be doing the Sunday into Monday revisit, but I’ll ask our AO.

ANother question…do you know what the costs are for the buses that are run during the holidays? I’m interested specifically in the Concord to NYC bus.

I PM’d you.

Keep em coming!

Thanks, spsforever…

I’m a current VI former at SPS and would be glad to answer any questions about my experience/school in general (I’ve been there for almost the full four years now)

Congratulations everyone!

I’d be an incoming sophomore next year and I was wondering are there things to do out of campus. My brother goes to andover and I was wondering if there is that same kind of walk to town kind of thing at SPS. I heard there was a bus to take you places but no actual town to walk to. Also, at SPS someone told me there is no cell phone connection at all, is that true? In addition, are there places to order food? Overall, my question is if SPS is fun.

SPS is right outside of Concord, which is the capital of New Hampshire. It’s a city, technically, but its really small. There are places to go for lunch and there is a record store and a few thrift stores, as well as a movie theater and a mall. There are chinese places, pizza places, and a Thai place that people order from frequently, and I think the Indian place might deliver too. You can also have a taxi bring Panera.

I have Verizon and I have pretty good service, but I think AT&T doesn’t really have service.

I have verizon, so thats good…
Also, Is concord the only city you can visit? In addition, I’m also wondering how sports are at your school. I am a big basketball fanatic and I noticed that your school got a new gym and everything. But more specifically, do a lot of people at SPS have that school spirit for sports. Do they go to home games with that same enthusiasm as other schools? My guess is that they obviously do. Finally, my last question is whether the gym is open at SPS the majority of the time. In my free time. I’d definately go to the gym and shoot around, maybe play a few pickup games. Is this a common thing there? Will i be able to fit in, especially as an incoming 2nd year?

Yeah a lot of people usually go to the home games. Depending on the sport of course. Basketball usually does get a big crowd.
