10000 * exp (-03) bridges.

Had a tour of the new Math Science building over the weekend. Truly amazing! One room has a beautiful very large blue dome in the ceiling. It will told a globe drops down into the classroom. There are 4 projectors (or 5 orâŠ) that can project on to itâs surface things like topography, weather, maps or whatever. Amazing and futuristic looking. Their recycling systems for water, cooling etc is impressive (AC to the greenhouse). The solar observatory is immense (in addition to already having the largest observatory in N.E.). The schoolâs computers are in and operating. There is even a sealed and automated paint spraying room for robotics (definitely different). Still on schedule to move-in at Thanksgiving.

I also saw the new artificial turf lighted playing fields (several acres). They are in addition to the existing fields. Leaves are just beginning to turn, hopefully in their full glory for Parentâs Weekend!

As to bridges question⊠I off hand count 9 major bridges (including Turkey Pond), but there are some smaller ones around the Lower School Pond.

I really have no desire to post too often⊠But I guess this is worth it!

IF you have an IPhone, IPad or Android, there is a new APP you should download: âSPS alumniâ (with all your other Apps). You also need a username and Password for the SPS web site (security). You get a worldwide map of all alumni. Quite cool. You can zoom in on a location and see everyoneâs name and contact info. I am not clear if it includes current students (someone try?). It does seem to include dead alums which is a bit weird but at least it does not show where they are, That would be Far stranger!

next step will be to have a live moving map like Harry Potters Maurauder Map. Alas, not yet there. Maybe in the next iteration.

@Winterset, thanks for your update! Canât wait for the family weekend!

Had occasion to call the SPS admissions office this week and found it had been rather dramatically overhauled. Iâd known there would be a new director, but was surprised to find an almost entirely new staff, as well, and some of my favorite people gone.

Does anyone have any impressions of the new admissions office?

I spent some time with Scott Bohan a week or two ago. He seems like a really solid guy with a very pragmatic way of looking at things. I think, based on my limited interaction, that he will be a solid addition to that department.
Prior to this role he was involved with the development office, traveling the country to visit alumni for the purposes of raising donations.

Just wondering as a tour guide⊠any feedback from tours?

Parentsâ weekend coming up!

SPS Theatre Program Honored

11/3/2011
Last month, the St. PaulÂs School Theatre Program was named by Stage Directions magazine as the top high school program in the Northeast.

An article in the November issue of Stage Directions called ÂDiversity in Excellence features six of North AmericaÂs top high school theatre programs including St. PaulÂs by region. The others include Interlochen Arts Academy (Midwest); Jewish Community High School of the Bay (Northwest); Alabama School of the Fine Arts (Southeast); Chaparral High School (Southwest); and Victoria School for the Arts (Canada).

The featured programs are nominated annually by the magazineÂs readers and selected by the Stage Directions staff.

ÂMy goal is always to be thinking about college choices and what opportunities are available so when they get to their senior year, they can really be prepared, SPS Theatre Director David ValdĂ©s told the magazine.

The SPS Theatre Program offers classes in acting, scene study, advanced acting techniques, theatre production and design, film production, and advanced studies. Additional electives in stage makeup, improvisation, and other areas are offered periodically.

Recent SPS productions directed by Valdés include The Exonerated, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Wilderness of Mirrors, The Shadow Box, and Rumors. The SPS Theatre Program will present An Ordinary Man on November 11 and 12, 2011.

ÂIÂve made it my mission to choose material that is educational and reflective of the issues we face today, ValdĂ©s told Stage Directions.

ValdĂ©s joined the SPS faculty in the fall of 2008. That year, he was nominated for a B. Iden Payne Award as Outstanding Director of Musical Theatre for his work on Bat Boy with Summer Stock Austin in Texas. In 2007 he was part of Summer StockÂs production team on Assassins, which received a Payne for Outstanding Musical Production.

The SPS theater program is great! For prospective thespians who live close by, there is an upcoming production that you might want to see:

Under the direction of David Vald

The move to the Lindsey Math/Science center happens this weekend!!! I have heard that the biggest problem lately on campus as been that kids are using every possible inventive way to sneak into the building. (hmmm sounds like something I would have done 35+ years ago). Either:
A) life hasnât changed much or
B) students are dying to learn more.

Hope all is well. Applications are doing great, but beyond boring statistics, I assume there are still questions we have not answered⊠So come on and ask! For many, boarding school is scary and mysterious, so letâs ask those questions you have been afraid to ask. I promise you someone else has worried about the same!

Hi everyone. I am applying for 9th grade. I want the admissions officers to know SPS is where i want to be next year and that SPS is my top choice. What is the best way to tell them this information. Would the best time being during my interview or in my essays?

The Science and Math Building sounds amazing! Any more details/student opinions now that itâs been moved into?

^^^The students are just returning from Thanksgiving break today, so tomorrow will be their first day of classes in it. It does appear to be really amazing though!

Tell them in the interview. They want to admit kids who will come, they donât want to waste a spot on a child who will ultimately choose Deerfield, Andover, etc⊠Tell them, and tell them loud and clear! Good luck!

Yes tell them in the interview, but also tell them why. Make certain your explanation is accurate, not I want to be on your sailing team. After you have finished your tours of schools, if SPS is still #1, the followup with a note telling them that.

Remember if your have any questions you can (and should) ask one of the students in the Sheldon Society. You are bound to find one you like the sound of. They have email addresses Just for their Admissions Role. Look here: [St.
Good luck. Circle back here if you have more questions.

The Boars Head Feast is still alive and well at SPS. See the photos of the boars head being carried in and the flags. A special meal.
Christmas at SPS is a truly remarkable and specially magical time of year. Guess the boys honored as the bearers now are required to wear shirts.

Oh poo on shirts! Next theyâll want some girls carrying it in.++__++

Better boys with a pig.

What do students think of the lindsay center now that theyâve been in it for a couple of weeks? Favorite parts? Least favorite? Unique features?
