Happy Holidays!
From the schoolâs website:
SPS Concludes Strong Admission Season
3/1/2016
Tenley Rooney
Extraordinary Applicants for 2016 - 2017 School Year
UhâŠholy smokes!
So they are going to hold their lips sealed for the remaining 9 days?
Well, according to the wording of the release, work isnât done just yet.
Yes. We were contacted very recently âŠsaid admissions still in committeeâŠ
What was the nature of the contact, @Center?
Interesting to note that applications for last yearâs admissions cycle were stated to be 1,524, so stable to a slight decrease in apps this year. Trend that will be seen elsewhere or a little fallout from the negative press of the scandal/trial this past year?
Iâm curious. Not many families earning 250k would be without substantial assets. So are they saying the only look at income? You could have 10million invested in Treasurys and only earn 200k. They must look at assets.
They definitely look at assets.
So I bet itâs misleading ⊠Very few situations where people with those earnings wonât have assets they should have to use.
I think simplified might be more accurate than misleading. There are a lot of factors that come into play - assets, living expenses which can vary based on location, family size, other children in BS or college, extenuating circumstances like steep medical expenses, etc.
More info can be found here and Iâm sure theyâll be very straightforward about it if you reach out to them with questions.

Heard from a reliable school connected source that the acceptance rate was 12% for SPS this year.
Cute holiday greeting video from the school that shows some shots of dorm interiors and various places on campus. I always forget how gorgeous this school is!

Welcome to all prospective Paulies and their families! :-h Ask away!
BTW, weâre all still learning from @doschicos! (Thanks for sticking around, @doschicos!)
A nice piece aired by Vermontâs NPR about SPSâs Science-on-a-Sphere globe: http://digital.vpr.net/post/levin-science-sphere#stream/0
And a new multidisciplinary science program, biomimetics, that combines engineering, architecture, and art: https://www.sps.edu/page/news-detail?pk=917968&fromId=188895
Wow. Thatâs fascinating, @doschicos! Thanks for sharing.
What are the boyâs dorms like? My son remembers them as having narrow hallways and low ceilings. I donât remember them at all.
Do most kids have singles/doubles/triples? Does that change if they get older?
How is the workload? Are the kids able to get everything done and still get some sleep?
How is the food?
The advising is a little different than what Iâm used to in that the advisor is tied to your dorm and switches if you switch dorms. Iâm used to my kids having the dorm fac as well as an assigned advisor outside of the dorm.
I apologize if these questions have been asked/answered. Iâll be going through the thread but my son just got off the waitlist and we have 24 hours to decide between SPS and MX.
Thanks!
âWhat are the boyâs dorms like? My son remembers them as having narrow hallways and low ceilings. I donât remember them at all.â - Dorms vary greatly in size and feel.
Do most kids have singles/doubles/triples? Does that change if they get older? - You can request whatever you prefer. You can have a single as a freshman if you want. You can change your choice every year if you want.
How is the workload? Are the kids able to get everything done and still get some sleep? - According to my DD, workload is manageable. She gets a healthy amount of sleep.
How is the food? - According to DD: Breakfast is to die for. Lunch is good. Dinner, depends on the night according to DD. Sit-down-dinners are very good. There is always salad bar, etc. for finicky eaters like mine. She also orders out (Chinese, etc). You can get a grab-and-go during the day if you donât want to go to the dining hall (a lunch box including sandwich, chips, fruit, etc.) Yes, these is a soft serve ice cream machine!
Iâll PM you about the rest.
