Benevolent4them and we30---Chill! Kids get into SPS and not A and E, or into A but not SPS, and smart qualified nice kids get turned down by all! It's not a scientific formula that some schools get right and some schools screw up. Maybe they loved you but didn't need your instrument in the orchestra as much as they needed a basoonist. Maybe the volleyball coach didn't get as many picks last year, so the hockey coach at had to give up one of his. Just accept it and move on to enjoy the wonderful place you end up going.

Yeah! Today in the mail, I just got a letter from the varsity lacrosse coach at Exeter. It talked about how middle-of-the-road students (who were varsity athletes) were able to academically thrive at Exeter.

My lax coach must have made a great rec, because I'm kind of the opposite. I'm decent at athletics, extremely good in the classroom.

Exeter and Andover, as well as Choate, are much bigger schools. SPS is a smaller school where a larger number are going to have to "do it all." They can cherrypick for sure. Straight A, right wing who also plays the cello. Trust me, they are out there. My husband went to Princeton with a multilingual, varsity squash player who got into a top law school and became a published author of fiction. There are some exceptional kids out there for sure.

i was still surprised, i am no where near the exeter goalie level right now, because im in 8th grade and hes a junior, but i felt that i could compete with the SPS goalie. and although SPS isnt that amazing at hockey, the head of the school played hockey and goes to the games, so i am surprised they wouldnt go for more. i also thought exeter and andover were looking for more perfect score kids and sps was alittle more lenient, but it turns out to be the opposite.

Well..you just never know, good lucky at A or E.

We30, SPS just graduated a senior goalie which means Pratt is going out to grab another goalie. It is possible he only has a certain number of recruits, and he was already committed to somebody else.

we30 did you emphasize what a great football player you are too>? As stated SPS kids have to wear many hats, that a larger school with PG's doesn't require.
It will be fun for you to see who they did bring in. That will answer alot of questions for you, and you will hopefully find some closure.

yeh... ill see SPS out on the field and the ice... exeter is the real bigred =p haha jk, its going to be fun to play you guys, make sps regret it haha

Agreed, we30! Exeter is the REAL big red. Regardless of where I go, I will make SPS regret waitlisting me. Even if it is JV, the lax goalie ought to wear some extra thick padding.

I'll get my shot up to 75 mph, and shoot a SPS goalie right in the shin. Get him to wear shin pads like the girls do.

my advice: everything happens for a reason. be content with where you were accepted or waitlisted or even rejected. although its not the best at the time, it will all work out for the best.

You two are funny. A year from now you won't even care.

Exeter soccer lost to SPS this year. ***??

SPS killed them 5-2. Coach torney just e-mailed me today..and SPS is losing 15 seniors. I plan on replacing one of them and beating Exeter again and murdering Andover. And I'm a striker...Im not talking all this junk from the defense or goalie (we30). Ill be putting the points on the board :)

My son is only getting SPS football coach communications, I believe he will be a nice surprise for the LAX coach next Spring, totally off his radar. An early Christmas for him! Maybe on the revisit I should make sure my wife and son avoid him just for kicks. Surprise surprise!

Hockey is interesting and my son used to play and does not play at all anymore:( However, there are many kids who also go to junior boarding schools that would be off anyone's radar. A kid that plays Div. 1 college hockey around here, I believe went to either Eaglebrook or Indian Mountain School. Then onto prep school, then played juniors out in the midwest and is now at at a Div. 1 college. He is also a concert pianist and composes music.

yeh, if it is okay with the college that i get into, i want to take a year to play in the USHL... i love the Chicago Steel... incredible junior team. and im going to be playing Varisty sophmore year(probably) so by senior year, i should be able to shut down SPS haha. being 6'1 helps to haha

Brutal! (10char)

How hard is it to get almost all A's at SPS. Because there's no convince my mom that the work is to hard to get mostly As. Like is it fathomable if you plan on doing a lot of other things?

It is absolutely impossible to get an A. Just tell her that. But in reality, there is no such grade. :) So you will not ever get an A.

Actually SPS has always had the following: High Honors, Honors, High Pass, Pass and Unsatisfactory. Now having said that.... Your Mom is maybe, probably, certainly (pick one) unrealistic to expect straight High Honors from you. SPS will be harder for almost everyone that comes there. Imagine if you created an Honors class from students from all over the world. Just focus on learning as much as you can. Still, per aspera ad astra.

Separately, there is the issue of Why St. Paul's uses a different grading system. Some say it is to confuse College Admissions officers, others say to confuse the parents and some say it is so students won't compete as much because they don't understand it either. Truth is it has been this way for a very long time, so why question it. It simply is what it is.

I will send you a private email with a bit more info.

Hmm ok cool, that sounds good. Knowing my mom she will try and just change it to a grading system she knows about. But that makes it easier on me...Im thinking she will look High Pass as the lowest I can get (B).
