I don’t have details about the audition. I think they take players of various abilities but it will just depend on whether you get first violin, second, etc. I know they have some very excellent violinists but some of the very best are graduating I believe.

How many violists do they have? The one thing I really like about my school is I am not one of the only violists. I am part of a group of close to eight. It is not close to the violins (or even the Violin 1s for that matter). It is still more than some orchestras.

Is getting principal chair competitive? Here it is (surprisingly due to the state of failure my school is in) actually quite competitive to get first chair. I currently also play the piano, but I will give that up once I get to boarding school.

Assuming I do competitive sports (no way I will give physical activity up!) and have a rigorous course-load, how long will I be able to practice daily without alienating myself from friends. I currently play for a couple hours each day, and more than that on weekends.

I think there are around 5-6 violists but I could be wrong. Not sure about the rest of your questions.

Cool:) Do most people go to concerts at stuff? Or is it like my school (despite the fact that we have an amazing orchestral program) where the only people who come are the people in the orchestra with a 3:1 Student- parent ratio…

goodpoint principal
thanks creative- would you also happen to know about their chamber music groups?

Well most orchestra concerts are on days when parents are at the school. But there are also other little recitals during the school year. For those a decent amount of students show up, but the best way to get a big audience is to tell your friends to come and support you. If you are a really good musician you can always play in chapel in front of the whole school, which is a really big honor because only the best students do so.

I’m not sure about the chamber music groups, because i’m only in concert band

ok, thank you GoBigRed !

Hmmm… we could get the entire football team to go to your concerts V.

ok-i’ll go
is saturday a half day schedule?

wednesdays and saturdays are half days

wat about laptops…do most students have one or does the school provide some?

I am pretty sure everybody on campus has some kind of computer, with about 95% of them being laptops. The school does not give them to you unless you are on full financial aid.

wat brand of laptop do most people have?

Majority of kids have laptops, but there are computers in every dorm (a mac and a pc). Plus when in the library you can borrow a laptop to use while there.

And a lot of people have macs, but there are a lot of pcs as well. It just depends on personal preference.

is the computer used everyday for homework?
if yes, how much of hw is done using the laptop?

do most students bring their laptops to class, like to take notes and do research?

Most students don’t bring their laptops to class to take notes, there are computers in every science and humanities classroom and the math department has computers available when needed. You only really need to bring your computer to class for presentations and even then you can just save it your network folder and open it on a computer in the classroom when you get there.

Why would you need to take notes with some laptop anyway? Last time I checked paper and pencil were still in style!

It looks like Saint Pauls has four options for the initial year of study in the arts:

In Fine Arts Fine Arts Foundations
In Theatre Foundations in Theatre
In Dance - Introduction to Dance
In Music - Introduction to Applied Music or Applied Music

How do the four different options compare in terms of time required and level of difficulty?

I’d probably rank them in this order of difficulty

Dance
Music/Theater
Fine Arts

Dance is by far the easiest, with no hw required. Music and theater require some time but not an excruciating amount. Fine arts requires a lot of time.
