I was reading about the program, and saw there is a round of interviews for semi finalists February 9 and a weekend interview event for finalists March 8-9. I also noticed that these dates cannot be changed unless it’s for a funeral or hospitalization . What if I have a trip planned March 3-10 and it’s been paid for since last year? I won’t be in the country, and it’s too late to request a refund. What do I do? What would you do?
If you make it to the finalist round and you think you want to attend Tech as a member of the Stamps program, then I would skip your trip. It’s a program that can open a lot of doors and lead to some great friendships and experiences, in addition to the financial benefit. It is worth skipping a trip for.
I agree with everything InPursuit said. The finalist weekend is mandatory for those that make it to that round, so if it is something you want and somewhere you want to attend, then you will need to skip the trip.
Skip the trip because stamps can save you 200k+ in the long run for OOS
They are serious about the interview date/times being mandatory. My daughter was expected to skip participation in the state finals of her sport rather than miss her assigned interview time (even at the semifinalist level) and changing it was not an option. I do believe they do it that way to gauge how committed an applicant is about Tech.
Are there sample interview questions anywhere?
@YungSkeeterman You’re not going to find a list of sample questions or a rubric. The interviewers want to get to know who you are, what motivates you, and where your passions lie. They do not want to hear a bunch of scripted responses.
I would spend your time reflecting on what you have done in high school, especially outside of the classroom. You were selected for interviews based on your application, so you should be able to elaborate all all parts of that and generally be able think out loud in response to questions you may receive. The goal obviously is not to regurgitate what they already know about you but to provide additional insight into what makes you tick. It’s cliche, but be yourself.
@YungSkeeterman FWIW, they asked my daughter many questions about her leadership and community service activities.
@GoodGrief16 I have the interview tomorrow, I was wondering if you could pm some questions they asked if you remember?
