During March, I took the new redesigned SAT, and I took the ACT in April. The scores for the ACT were released first and the SAT scores came out a few days ago. When I registered to take the test, I put CMU as one of the schools to send the scores to. I got a 32 on the ACT and only a 1280 on the SAT. How does sending both scores to them affect me? They also decided that the writing portion of both tests were no longer required after I took the tests. If I didn’t do too well on that portion, would the admissions officers overlook that score?
Thanks
Hi,
From the admissions website:
“Applicants are required to submit all official results of either the SAT Reasoning Test or the new SAT Test [or ACT test]. While we’re interested in the general pattern of your scores, we give most weight to the highest score you’ve received on any of the exams. We aren’t looking to disadvantage test takers in this process and will use whatever score result gives you the greatest benefit in the admission process.”
So, sending both tests does not affect you. They will review the test that you received a higher score on. And yes, the admissions office will overlook the writing score.
