Stanford 2014 SCEAers

I would most probably convince myself I was always going to be rejected and then dejectedly surf the web looking for some inspirational quotes lol

Music might work better lol… and won’t burn your eyes out

I don’t know how I would deal with rejection. I’d probably be really depressed for a while and then try to focus on other schools. I think deferral might be just as bad or even worse because of the huge wait to find out what’s going on.

How important are International/National Awards?

Other than National Merit and AP Scholar, I’ve only gotten regional awards so far, though some have been 1st place :/

i would LOVE to be deferred. If I am good enough to be that close to admission in Stanford’s applicant pool then the wait for my decisions from Cornell/Duke/Dartmouth will be alot easier, knowing that I have a good chance at those schools.

I have really mixed feelings about deferral.

In the end, I’d much rather be deferred than rejected… but… I dunno. I almost dread it more than rejection, even though I would rather have it. I guess it’s just because you were so close, but just… fell short. It lacks closure.
But I would definitely prefer deferral to rejection, because then you still have a chance! A small chance–you’re obviously a borderline case–but a chance nonetheless.

@Evenstarz, not very…

Intellectually, I would prefer deferral. Four years at Stanford is worth the four months of waiting.

Emotionally, I would prefer rejection. I’m fantastic at rationalization/coping mechanisms/self-delusion, and I’d like to get started ASAP. :p

Obviously the deferral would be worth it if you were accepted at the end, but deferral then rejection would be really depressing.

Does anyone know what financial aid stuff we have to turn in? I’m pretty sure it says somewhere on the website that we need to get something in by November 15, but it’s not displayed prominently or in any of the admissions material. If it was really that important, wouldn’t they be sure to tell everyone?

We have to turn in the CSS PROFILE by November 15. You should definitely get to work on it because it seems really difficult and confusing.

it requires tax estimates, income estimates, random personal info, etc.

it def takes a few hours to check all the numbers

Okay, I did a little more research, and it turns out that November 15 is only the priority deadline. So the aid will likely be a bit worse if it’s late, but we’re going to get it either way (assuming we’re accepted).

I guess I’ll start, then…

^ what a life-saver. I thought fin-aid wasn’t due for a while!!

So… anyone have a topic idea?

Okay, so I think here’s my cue to join the club - I’ve applied REA and from what I’ve read in the last few pages of this thread, I’m in the same boat as all of you.

Just out of curiousity - how many internationals do we have here?

Also, do any of you know whether Stanford will release statistics for the number of REA applicants before December 15th?

As many of you have mentioned, I sincerely hope we can keep this thread going until mid-December.

Not international. I imagine that there can’t be many, as Stanford can’t promise to be need blind to international applicants. Then again, college confidential has a strange mix of brilliant people from all over.

I would never look at a list of statistics about the accepted class of 2014 before Dec. 15. It would just depress me.

I think I shall open the email as soon as I get it, cover up the half of the screen that’s the first part of the letter, and read a few words in the middle of the letter, then a sentence, etc. to keep the hope alive as long as possible.

I would hate reading the first sentence if it was rejection.

New topic, ummm…

What are your guy’s faviorate bands/artists?

Getting back on topic… :P

I think if I got rejected I’d be more disappointed in that all the time I spent on the application was a waste and that I’d have to get started on a whole new wave of applications. Not so much that I didn’t make it in; I know that there’s a school out there for me - hopefully Stanford - but I’ll be happy wherever I end up.

:)
