So yesterday, I had the brilliant idea of searching out what an actual Stanford EA rejection letter looks like.
I then proceeded to have a terrible nightmare in which I checked my e-mail and read that very letter.
I know, you can’t imagine anything scarier? Me neither.

In the article linked by mfederman, it says, “Last year, almost 1,000 students completed their applications electronically and paid their application fees, but ultimately failed to submit these materials by the deadline. Their applications were not considered.”
What materials are they talking about?

I think it just means common app, supplement, secondary school report, etc.

Any of you guys get assignments/projects over Thanksgiving break? (And/or planned groaners for Christmas break?)
I have to make a lesson/presentation for Lit about Heart of Darkness, teach the chapter about mass media for Gov, and make a poetry book for Spanish. I also still have to do my weekly online Chinese assignments, but that’s not much.

Speaking of which… Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

people didnt submit the supplement or common app because it said somthing like “at the same time” or i dont remember but it had to do with not submitting both parts of the common application by the deadline

I just completed a 9 page study guide on Heart of Darkness for APEL. . .
I actually liked it, and the the themes were pretty easy to decipher.

Onto MacBeth. . .

I’d be surprised if someone didn’t have hw. I have a lot, but I’m starting to care less and less about it.

Wait…what did you mean at submitted at the same time? I submitted my supplement 5-6 days before I submitted the common app. They said they had all of my materials…

Looks like all the AP English Lit classes do Heart of Darkness. We did it during first quarter though.

tkd I think that’s fine. It sounds like maybe last year’s kids thought submitting one part would send the other at the same time…

I’d be surprised too, but it’s at least a discussion topic, heh.

I think HOD was easy, but really boring in starting. It got better as it went on, in my opinion.

Don’t worry tkdkid, that’s fine. They just mean they won’t start reviewing it until they have both parts, which both have to be in before the deadline.

@tkdkid: thats aparently why people didnt submit the other half, because, just like you when you heard that, thought “oh crap” i guess im not supposed to submit them individually, which is exactly how you are supposed to do it…

your fine, dont worry about it, as long as you clicked submit twice, once on the common app and once on the supplement your fine.

Yeah Heart of Darkness was a good book, but what I liked was that our AP English teacher made us read Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart right after Heart of Darkness. Heart of Darkness gave us the imperialist point of view of Africa which made the Africans seem unintelligent and uncivilized, but Things Fall Apart was told from a Nigerian perspective and gave me a view on African civilization that I didn’t even knew existed.

thank you…wow I just quadruple checked common app and everything…

on a slightly less scholarly topic:

does anyone watch glee?

Did you guys read books about Dystopia’s in 10th grade? In my school we read Animal Farm, 1984, Brave new World, and Lord of the Flies. Personally that was the only year I liked the books we read in English (Brave New World rises above all the rest). Now we’re reading the Sound and the Fury (Satan reincarnated into a illegible hardcover book) :[

And I saw one girl post her admission letter online; her regional admissions officer also sent her a personal letter, giving personal congratulations and citing specific parts of the girl’s application. Do regional admissions officers usually send their own personal letters as well?

i really disliked lord of the flies ><. yeah, was wondering too; are acceptance and rejection letters personla, or are they generic?

also; my friend loves glee; i myself have never watched it. but I love HOUSE.it’s awesome. though it’s getting a bit draggy.

They’re generally generic, but I’ve read that Stanford adcoms often add little personal notes to the acceptance letters that come in the physical mail. Not always, though.

I remember reading 1984 and Lord of the Flies in 10th grade, so, yeah. Dystopias and all that, wot wot.
Though, I’ve actually never really liked reading fiction in general. A bit strange, considering reading comprehension and writing are basically my strongest areas, but I just don’t like slogging through novels at all. I enjoy reading articles, arguments, and information/encyclopedia kind of stuff a lot more.
So, yeah, I don’t care much for AP Lit… I miss Lang. But, my classmates all have the opposite opinion, haha.

I’ve never seen Glee, but I do adore it indirectly. My art buddies all rave to me about it, quoting parts and whatnot, but I haven’t actually had the chance to watch it. From what I’ve heard of it, though, I know I’d love it.

Oh, snowy, I love House!
It was a lot better back with the original team, though.

House MD is the bomb; seriously, this season is turning out to be pretty dramatic, though Cuddy should just go jump off a cliff… if you know what I mean

I love House too! Though I’m mad that Cameron left and that they kind of dropped the whole Chase killed someone thing in the last episode.

It’s weird to think about how everyone’s English classes are basically the same. I guess AP classes have to be pretty similar. We’re reading Hamlet right now. =(

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Oh, new topic: What’s your favorite holiday and why? Don’t say your birthday.

Mine is Thanksgiving because mashed potatoes are my favorite food and I love the spirit of it. I feel like people rarely stop and take the time to thank people or appreciate their lives.

My birthday!

Oh, wai- Dangit, what do you mean I can’t choose that :(

Haha okay, I dunno. I like Christmas because the whole family gets together, there’s presents, and there’s just about as much food as Thanksgiving. Also, it gets about 70 degrees F, which is pretty much as cold as it gets down here.

my class is not the same. our teacher had a botched surgery and insisted to continue teaching on pain meds so we get off topic for weeks at a time, mostly about health care reforms. I would care if I hadn’t already gotten a 5 on AP English last year.
