@teahouse, I agree, but I think CC’s acceptance rate has traditionally been higher than the “normal” populace. Normal being the “average” Stanford applicant. Average being 2300+ SAT and such.

haha i dont want to read those letters, that would be like spoiling the surprise

Oh, ha “CC” acceptance rate. Sorry I misread that.

Teahouse, do you have a Y chromosome? Sorry, just trying to keep everyone’s gender straight.

And yeah, I would love to have a 1/4 chance of getting in. Actually, 1/1 is preferable.

I do not have a Y chromosome.

how many posts are we up to?

Hahahahahahahahah, mfederman, you were the 666th post :)

what about today?

Y chromosomes FTW

126 posts including mine.

7 guys, 5 girls.
I would still like to know everyone’s gender, but this is as new topic that would spark more discussion:

How do people react when you tell them that you’re applying to Stanford/HYPM?

Most people look at me, glance away, look at me again, look confused, and then say “Wait, seriously?” To which I respond “Yes…” and then they say “Of course you’re going to get in! You’re you.” And then I recite various admission rates/statistics and such, and then they say “Oh my God,” and walk away.

People are impressed but they think its way easier to get into than it is. People seem to be more impressed with Yale though. I like Stanford much more.

@ teahouse, that’s exactly what I was going to post… we can tell our decision just by looking slowly at the first letter.

Better hope that first letter has some nice curves ;)

Yeah, people seem to be much more impressed with MIT particularly over here, but I try to tell them Stanford’s pretty much the hardest school, maybe even harder than H&Y.

Anon, were you born in '93? If so, I feel old >.>

Forgot to mention I have two Y chromosomes. Super male.

yeah. ahhaahaha. i sort of stopped telling people i was applying to stanford after the 3rdish person. because all the responses I got were of like speechless faces and they were like " you’ll get in" and i was like" no i won’t"…afterwards i just settled for telling pople i was appling to the university of maryland.

torcher- you can’t have 2 Y chromosomes. If you’re a male you’ve XY, X inherited from the mother (who has XX) and Y inherited from the father (XY). genetics! :p

Not exactly, [XYY syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](XYY syndrome - Wikipedia)

lolol snowy, same here cept i say ASU

Torcher, I was born in '93. But you’re not old, I skipped 2 grades. A long time ago.

Only in the Stanford forum can a simple question regarding gender lead to a discussion of genetics and possible mutations.

Most people think that Harvard and Yale are much better schools than Stanford. If there is any difference, it’s minute and I like the atmosphere of Stanford much better. Most people don’t understand why I would choose Stanford over Harvard in a heartbeat around here though. They just shake their heads in disbelief.

I’ve gotten into the habit of saying “I’m not sure where I’m applying, yet.”

People here like don’t even realize their is a world outside of Oklahoma. They think I’m mad at them because I want to go out of state. haha.
Some people go to Texas schools but only like 5 or 10.
Has anyone gotten mad at any of you for applying to the same college?

No one’s gotten mad at me, no. Though, many get defensive when I tell them I really don’t want to go to UF (despite my assurances that, yes, I know it’s a good school.)

People at my school don’t really know what Stanford is, so telling it’s my #1 is generally met with confusion.

BYU is the “omg omg omg” school here
