Don’t know what I need to do to convert a deferred to admit?
Deferred isn’t a bad place to be. They rarely defer someone. In all likelihood, that means they really liked you, and you were right on the line, they just want to see more of the pool. That should give you motivation to finish this first semester strong. You’ll want to find out who your particular AO is, and then update them once or twice before Regular comes out with any impressive new additions to your file.
What percentage of deferrals usually get accepted? and how can I find my particular AO?
Michael, thanks so much for your advice! How would I find out who my AO is - taking 6 APs this semester and doing really well. Finals next week and really well prepared, so academically, I am on a good footing. Need to figure out what else do I need to do to make my app more formidable.
I don’t have a number but it’s very small. If you go to the Stanford admissions homepage, and then click “Counselors” it will take you to a page that says Contact Your Admission Officer. I tell you that with hesitation. Everyone should be extremely thoughtful before sending an AO anything. You do not want to annoy them, appear to be pandering, or anything like that. We can talk more next year about what to do–for now, don’t do anything. Maybe sometime in late February you reach out with a concise update and express that Stanford is your top choice if that’s true.
anyone else get in?
Well, I don’t think his stats are anything exceptional. I’m sure everyone here is hardworking and passionate and deserve to be admitted. I guess it’s maybe his essays that made him appealing to Stanford’s AdComs? For all I can say, my son doesn’t have “perfect stats”, and he was discussing some of his vulnerabilities in his essays, so he didn’t try to pretend to be the one.
The writing is critical. That’s really where an AO will fall in love with you; where you can transform them from your judge to your personal advocate. Don’t second guess your application if you get denied. But you should feel prepared to give your writing another look and see if you can improve it for Regular.
Thank yo so much for sharing! Congrats again!
