Stanford Admissions Chances

Hi! I am currently a high school senior preparing to apply regular decision to Stanford this January. I have wanted to go to Stanford since I was extremely young.

My grade point average is somewhere around a 3.3 but hopefully is going up
My ACT score right now is 27 but I will be taking them again
My SAT Lit score was 610
I played three years of varsity volleyball, had lead roles in three productions at my school, perform in my a capella group, work extensively with a school in South Africa and participated in a conference there, and studied at Brown for a summer before traveling to Scotland to perform in the Fringe festival

My essays are strong (I think) and my recommendations are as well from what I have heard

What are my chances at being accepted to Stanford? And is there anything I can do to increase my chances?

Also, my parents divorced recently attributing to a lot of stress and a decrease in what used to be solid A-'s, should I find a way to incorporate that into my application?

Since you are new I will direct you to a thread that talks about how to correctly classify your post.

Without knowing much about your particular high school, its curriculum or your course rigor, I am going to be honest with you that your GPA and your ACT scores are simply too low to place you in the competitive pool for Stanford, despite your good ECs. Unless your ACT scores dramatically rise, I don’t think they are going to offset your GPA. And yes, although you can point out the effect of your parents’ divorce, keep in mind that many, many seniors parents go through divorces and they keep their GPAs up. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have been effected, it just means that the pool of applicants to Stanford is just really high-end. Now, this all being said – maybe you can make a list of what it is about Stanford that you like, and find other schools that may have some of those things. Div 1 athletics? A Capella choirs? Mid-size 4,000-6,000 undergraduates? There are so many great colleges out there and I am sure that you will, in the end, find one that works for you.
