Stanford App

hey guys, i guess this can be a thread taht will include general questions about the stanford app. i had a question involving the word count? im unsure how many words to write for each of the short answers, and how many for the essay? if anyone has an idea please let me know as i need to complete the app soon to stay on schedule. thanks alot

i used guess and check for my word counts for the short essays - it was about 200, 250 words for me. as for the long essay, somewhere in the range of 800 fit for me. side note: i think it's stupid stanford counts spaces for character count.

(by turtle):
On the online application last year, these were the character limits (including spaces and punctuation):

Long essay (11a/b): 5400 characters
Short essay 1 (meaningful activity): 1500 characters
Short essay 2 (intellectually exciting): 1500 characters
Short essay 3 (roommate letter): 1400 characters

I found that when I wrote, I usually got 6 characters for every word on average (including punctuation and spaces). So if you write like I do, your word limit would be 900 words on the long essay, 250 words on the first two short answers, and 233 words on the last short answer. Try doing a character count with your word processor.

If you aren't doing the online application, you can write however much you can fit without making it unreadable.

i know it says on the teacher recommendation form to write in all capitals, but we can write e-mail in capitals, right? because capital and lowercase letters in e-mails are different....

right?

capitalization wouldn't matter for emails, if that's what you're asking.

yes, that's what i'm asking, and thanks...lol

Do we have to send in the stanford teacher rec? I'd hate to ask my teachers to write their recs all over again for the common app when I don't get in SCEA.............

They can just attach their letter to the Stanford form.
