Thank you for the input! Unfortunately I don’t have the money to hire an admissions firm, so I will be going forward on my own
Are you good enough to play tennis at Stanford? That would get you noticed.
You have all the “qualification” boxes checked. SAT could maybe be higher, but I don’t know if that matters so much–Stanford rejects lots of people with perfect SAT scores. You need to make yourself stand out as an individual among a sea of qualified candidates. Your best shot at that is probably to highlight the college-level research experience, and come up with a creative way in your essays to show that you are informed, committed, and will do things in the future to keep Stanford’s name in the spotlight. And do it humbly, with humor.
Even so, it’s like a roll of the dice getting into Stanford. If you don’t get in there, don’t sweat it. I think you’ll do well wherever you end up.
Just as most of the applicants, I would say your chances are at or below their acceptance rate, especially given your scores are on a little low side (SAT, subjects). While research is interesting, not enough to tilt the scale. You should apply, but make sure to build a strong, balanced college list. BTW, I wouldn’t put too much on “MD/PhD UCLA Professor” recommendation. Again, it rarely tilts the scale at the Stanford level.
Edit: “MD/PhD UCLA Professor” could definitely help at UCLA.
