Stanford Chances?

I live in California, less than an hour away from Stanford University. Ive wanted to go there ever since I heard about it when I was a little kid. I researched about it, and it just seems like the perfect school for me. Ive visited the campus alot, researched financial aid, and I know this college is my top choice.

Im a sophomore in high school, currently have a 3.2 GPA, and got a 1200 (1800 on 2400 scale) on the PSAT. My extracurriculars include marching band, concert band, and jazz band. In the span of six years, I mastered the clarinet, tenor saxophone, and the drums, and am now developing my piano skills. Ive competed in band competitions before, but none are worthy of talking about. If it helps, Im African American.

I want to go into medicine, but I fear my low GPA might lessen my chances of getting into Stanford. Do I still have a chance, and if so, what should I do junior and senior year to raise my chances?

I’m going to be honest with you. You’re most likely not going to get into Stanford. Most people that are accepted into Stanford have at least a 2300 on the old SAT and substantially higher GPA say 3.9 at the least. Sorry mate but if you don’t greatly increase your SAT and GPA then you’re most likely not going to get accepted especially since Stanford gathers a very large amount of applications and one of the lowest acceptance rates in the world. You not only just not stand out but you’re below their lower level standards.

And Stanford may not be the greatest fit for you. Find out about all the colleges there are. Don’t be fixated on one. You’ve got 2.5 years of high school left. Don’t make high school all about college. Figure out what you are interested in and go after it. Then, you’ll find a school with a good fit.
