Stanford Chances

I'm a junior in a Hawaii elite school and I'm ranked #1 at school but you have you understand that our school is TINY!!! It's only about 280 people from sixth grade to seniors. I've been wanting to go to Stanford since forever but I don't know if I should even try after reading everyone's accomplishments. How do you guys do it?!!? you're my heros. Anyway, my SAT scores weren't so good - 1350 but I was really really sick that day so I'm definitely taking it again. (The new one). I took a SAT prep class and did okay in it. I'm class of 2006 so I'll be taking the new SAT coming up. My average SAT scores are 650 for verbal, 780 for math, and 790 for writing. My school does not weigh our GPAs and I have a 3.96 currently. I've taken every single AP class my school offers. As for extracurricular activities, I don't really have a lot but I have pursued for a long time what I love and value. I want to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. Therefore, I have both volunteered for my pediatrician, which was the best experience ever, and I volunteer at a preschool, to get to know little kids better. I also have a love for music - I have played piano for about 11 or 12 years and I've done National piano auditions. I play the piano at a nursing home during the summer and I'm on the worship team at church which takes up a lot of my time. I'm also in a leadership program that is selective for Hawaii, where we go and spend the day with the governor and other cool stuff. I've been part of a youth group for the past 6 years of my life and I'm on my church leadership team. I'm also really in love with math which is why I started the school math team. I'm on the school yearbook staff (for the past three and will be four years) where I will be editor next year. I'm also the editor for Passport, which is a foreign language magazine. (Chinese is my first language and I lived in china for the first few years of my life but I'm also taking Japanese). There are other extra curricular activities that I've done such as NHS but I'm really interested in Math, Music, and Pediatrics. I understand that Stanford is such a competitive college but I was wondering, do you guys think I have a chance?

Wall of text?

I think you do. Take lots of sat verbal practice tests. Good luck!

Yeah man, break that **** into paragraphs.

You'll have no chance at Stanford until you learn how to write ;)

I didn't read the body of your message.

You'll have a reasonable chance if you get a good score on SAT. Take SAT IIs as well. They are "optional", but 98% of accepted students have them...

i think you have a pretty good shot:). sadly, so do a great deal of other applicants to stanford, so...it's really hard to be definitive.

i think it's become the status quo to have "NHS" on an app, so (general advice, not only for you) when you tell colleges about it, expound on what you have done as part of the organization. what volunteer evenets have you started/participated in? etc...would def. lend alot of weight to your app.

Thanks Everyone. You guys rock.
