the transfer admit rate for Stanford is very, very low. So I would say that is a reach even though you are academically qualified. Columbia has a similar case. I don’t know how to evaluate their admit rate because a good portion of those transfers are sophomore transfers and 3/2 program transfers. So my conjecture would be that Columbia is a reach as well ( simply because of statistics; your grades and test scores are very good).

stanford has a thing for cc kids, columbia has a very low acceptance rate as well and likes to take xfers early so that they can complete their strict academic program…you don’t have zero chances, but your chances are slim… it sounds like you have some pretty interesting life experiences (being a black south african will certainly help you, perhaps this is something you can bring up in your essay) but in terms of substantive academic ec’s nothing stands out to me…worth applying though

Yeah, like I didn’t mean to say “don’t apply because you have no chance!” It’s more like you have a chance but don’t get too hung up on it because it is quite feasible that you will not be admitted, and this is not because of your application’s strength/lack thereof but rather because of the schools’ very low acceptance rates

Does “PSU” mean Penn State University? If so, then which campus are you at & why do you want to transfer? Your chances may be better if you are at a satellite campus.

Apply anywhere you want. And with your application/numbers I would blanket the best schools in the country until one bites. Transfer rates at top schools are just notoriously low, but you’re qualified. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean anything other than that if you’re rejected, it won’t be because you’re unqualified.

Hey I go to Penn State too! I agree with everything said above. If you write an incredible essay with recs that say great things about you your chance will be much better. Good luck

Great Chance, I think… but yea, in all actuality, none of the people her are admissions so you should channel your energy into your essay, opposed to these subjective opinions. otherwise, you have a great chance, just try and write a good essay, perhaps including some of your extracurricular activities. Thread closed,

wait, i still didnt get it…may anyone explain what " program transfers" is.and how comes “3/2 program transfers” on ccTransfer10’s post …it’s even bigger than 1.i know i am just acting like a fool now…whatever…anyone can help me out w/this question so that i can decide whether to apply for Columbia? (i am a rising junior…)

this is the fourth time you’ve bumped this thread, this is getting obnoxious. you got a wide array of opinions already, deal with it. you are bumping down other people who don’t have so many responses. please do not respond to this, i think we’ll all know how to take that.
