Stanford CS vs Michigan CS

What are some of the differences between the two Computer Science programs at these two AMAZING institutions?

What is the difference in rigor?

What is the difference of job opportunities?

What is the difference in environment (students, professors, cut-throat-ness etc....) ?

Include anything else that will help me make a decision. Thanks.

P.S. Please do not base your answer on school rankings i.e. US News or any of the sort.

no one has attended both schools so no one will know about the difference in rigor.

And don’t count your eggs before they hatch. You made it sound like you got admitted to both

Yeah I wish I got admitted to both lol.

Exactly, so stop acting like you got admitted and are making a decision.

I would choose Stanford. Stanford is near Silicon Valley and the internship opportunities would be endless.

Not to mention that if you ever wanted to change out of CS, you would be in a school with much stronger programs than Michigan.

A Stanford degree can open up more doors, but Michigan is certainly strong for CS as well. But, if you like Michigan more than Stanford, then you should certainly go to Michigan.

Lol stop PMSing

Plus there is a larger American Indian population in California.

If one is choosing between Stanford and Michigan, I would recommend Stanford over Michigan unless Michigan is substantially cheaper, in which case, I would probably recommend Michigan.

Hate to break it to you, but your chances of getting into Stanford are very slim. A 3.85, even with a 36 ACT (which you almost for sure won’t get), and asian probably won’t get you into Stanford. Never hurts to try but fyi general procedure on these boards is to wait until after you are accepted to both schools before making vs. threads. You haven’t even been accepted to one, and neither is a sure thing.

Damn haha why is everyone hating on this guy, just answer his question?

For example?

CS is the one program where Stanford has a definite edge because of silicon valley (but only if you are real good in CS).

^Well I agree that Michigan has some of the best programs in the country and is vastly underrated by US News, Stanford has one of the top two or three programs in almost every area. The job opportunities coming out of Stanford are also probably better because employers know how smart you have to be just to get in there. Not that Michigan isn’t outstanding, it’s just that SU is one of the top couple schools in the country and world. I believe Michigan is a top 15 school and QS World rankings and Time Higher Ed world rankings reflect that. I’ll be a proud alum in four years.
