an0nymous, my last hope is that some of your achievements are exaggerated (which I doubt).
If it isn't exaggerated, the only logical answer is that Stanford wasn't impressed with your essays, or they were admitting legacies on the early round (stanford doesnt admit too many legacies thou...)

I just hope stanford, yale and duke like diversity enough to admit me... college admissions is craaazy

perhaps one reason why an0nymous was deferred was that the committee just wanted to verify his numbers, which are exceptionally impressive. i have a friend who knows someone who got deferred simply because he got a recommendation from a doctor at the Stanford hospital. Stanford red-flags many applicants if they seem too good to be true. i'm pretty sure that an0nymous can get in to Stanford via Regular Decision once everything checks out.

im more inclined to think that i blundered on my essays or something. i don't know. but definitely - i am asian and that hurts my chances tremendously. i don't know about enigma456's answer; stanford received score reports and transcripts... the only thing left to verify, then, would be my extracurriculars. we'll just see what happens...

anyway, woodchuck, i think you're definitely a qualified student. but like me, your asian status hurts you. i don't think you have to worry about duke, rice, carnegie, or cal. but the ivy's are always a crapshoot, and amherst is equally unpredictable. i'd be surprised if you didnt get into one of them, though. good luck!

You honestly have a good shot at the Ivy, but the vast majorities of good shots are rejections. Yeah, it sucks I know.

I'll be blunt, I really don't see any exceptionally unique in your resume. You clearly are an accomplished student, as demonstrated by your classically collegiate-appealing e.c and courses, but for your chosen schools (specifically the top ones), there isn't anything truly "amazing".

Look, these schools have enough over achievers. They want kids with genuine hobbies and interests, not a laundry list of academic honors and unrelated e.c.

Didn't read your entire post. Sigh Now I feel like a scumbag.

Well, Amherst IS one of my top choices, so that's nice, although you are by far the cruelest evaluator yet (not at all a detrimental comment though, I mean, it's good to be honest). But what do you mean you "feel like a scumbag?"

other than your grades, i don't see a reason why a top college would NEED to accept you. i'm sure you're a good person but in terms of ECs i don't see the unique factor. hopefully your essays rock. GL cuz we're all in the same boat as you are...praying for some nice results.

edit:

after reviewing your writing things, your essays WILL kick ass,
