That SAT score is really low. You’re chances are probably not good. Other than starting an apparel company your ECs are typical. Do you have any hooks?
i wrote my common app essay on my ninth grade accident when i suffered an injury in which the doctor thought i may have my brain damage but a few weeks later we were relieved that i hadn’t. i talked about how it affected and inspired me to pursue my passions in and out of high school.
Your GPA and EC’s are good but remember that Stanford only accepts 5% of applicants. Your SAT scores are low:
% in range of accepted students: SAT Critical Reading Score: 500-599: 4%; 600-699: 24%; 700-800: 72%
Sat Math Score: 500-599: 2%; 600-699: 20%; 700-800: 78%
I was accepted early admissions back in 2007. My SAT scores were Math 800, Writing 640, Critical Reading (verbal) 570. I got 800s on SAT Math II and Physics subject tests.
I don’t think you can look at SAT I statistics for a school and decide based on that. My SAT I scores were statistically very low and I had no “hook”. I did have a couple interesting EC accomplishments. Also, everyone has a unique story to tell in the essay and it will make a difference.
Decide to either apply or not and then don’t worry about it after the decision is made.
The apparel thing is cool, but the rest is pretty basic. Your essay could potentially turn out very good, but a 1500+ SAT would make you more competitive. A 1350 is already low among applicants, and 95% of applicants don’t get in.
@Manreet I advise against sharing your personal essays with other people in the online community like College Confidential, Reddit, etc. as your information or contents inside it may be easily leaked and may be reused by others.
My best friend had a 2370 and he was still deffered. He had an 800 on all his Sat II’s and he had all 5s on 12 Aps. Stanford has the lowest acceptance rate in the nation. I’m not saying you have 0%chance of getting in, because your EC’s are fine-especially the first one listed: but the problem is your gpa and your sat score. Obviously every case is different, but my friend had a 2370 and a 4.9 GPA and was still deferred. It would be very difficult to get in with a 1350, even a 1400. You’re best bet is to try and hit at least a 1450 but id recommend 1500 to be best. Goodluck!
