Stanford Early Action or Regular Decision

I have a 2220 SAT and a 33 ACT. I'm taking the SAT again in a couple of weeks and I think i can bring it up to a 2300. I am taking the SAT subject test in December, but I wanted to apply early to Stanford. Stanford "strongly recommends" the SAT subject tests, so I can't decide if I should apply early action or submit regular decision with the subject tests. Which option would give me the best chances of admission?

You need to look at two things:

The S website, where they describe the possible decisions for EA.

The EA Results thread from last year.

The reality is that colleges like S only take exceptionally qualified candidates in the EA round, ones that they want to have extra time to woo into attending, since these students are likely to be accepted to other highly selective colleges if they choose to apply RD. If a candidate is competitive but not outstanding, they are WLed to compare to the pool in the RD round. However, S prefers to WL relatively few EA candidates and denies many (compared to say Yale, which WLs many applicants).

Not having a ‘strongly recommended’ part of the application puts you at a disadvantage to start with, so unless the rest of your application is extremely compelling, IMO the RD round would likely give you a better shot.

Thanks! Ill probably just wait to do RD then.

****. if this is true i’m screwed
