STANFORD EARLY ACTION OR REGULAR DECISION

Hello everyone, Stanford University is my dream school and I really want to get in. However, I am debating with myself whether to apply early action or regular decision. I don’t really care if I get the acceptance letter early or late. As long as I can get into Stanford, I will be extremely happy. Therefore, if applying early action does actually increase my odds (even just by a little bit) at getting in Stanford, then I will definitely go early action. If it does not increase my odds at getting into Stanford, then I would be happy to go for regular decision.

Other schools that I am applying: Harvard College, Columbia University, UPenn (Wharton), Northwestern University, NYU (Stern), Carnegie Mellon (Tepper), USC (Marshall), Boston College, Georgetown University, UC Berkley, and UCLA.

Please be honest and objective when evaluating my chances at getting into Stanford. I am open to any criticism, suggestion, and guidance. So, please feel free to write your opinion. I would like to thank you all in advance for helping me to make this important decision!!!

P.S. please forgive my typos and grammatical mistakes.

ESSAY
I believe I have written very good essays, both common app and Stanford supplements. All teachers and counselors whom I have shown the essays told me they liked it very much

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Teacher: I believe my teachers will write me very good letters of rec because they loved me as a student and I loved them as teachers.

Counselor: I believe my counselor will write me a phenomenal letter of rec. She has been openly expressing her love for me and always says that I am the best student she ever had.

Extra letter of rec: the UCLA professor that I worked with during my internship at UCLA( look at the experience section) will also write me a letter of rec. He also expressed great esteem towards me and says that I am even better than undergraduate students who worked with him in the past. He liked my work and even wants me to work for him again next summer. This professor got his PhD at Stanford and taught at NYU(Stern), Northwestern(Kellogg), and currently teaches at UCLA(Anderson). Therefore, he agreed that he will write me a generic letter and three specifics letter for Stanford, Northwestern, and NYU.

Are you going to retake ACT or taking SAT? Your current score is below admission average. If you are not going to improve your credential, then you may apply SCEA to Stanford. Note that they reject vast majority of early applicants and defers very little. So one would not have a chance to improve the credential once submitted the application.

@billcsho I am going to retake ACT in October but I do not know if I can get any higher than 32. I know that Stanford rejects most of the applicant, which is why I posted my doubts here. Early action can help and hurt in different situations and for different people. I just want to know if early action helps for me.

Except for ACT score (which I prefer to be 33+), everything else looks OK. However, Remember it is a crapshoot.
(Your MATH II could be better too)

Apply early to Stanford if you like but no significant advantage.

Go EA as long as a rejection won’t demolish your subsequent applications.

I am curious as to how your work experience or internships are so privileged. It’s a little odd for a HS student.

^ Agree. Although the admission rate appears higher from SCEA, it is mainly due to legacy or athlete recruit. There is really little advantage by applying SCEA, particularly if there is room for improvement in GPA and/or test score.

I am particularly curious about the work experience, OP. Additionally, while I don’t remember if Stanford “requires” SAT Subject tests, most colleges want you to submit tests in a language which is not your native language if you choose to submit the language test.

@JustOneDad @Waiting2exhale For some internships, I was just persistent in reaching out. For instance, I got the UCLA internship because I just emailed to every single professor at UCLA and USC( over 100 emails) and just one replied me back. For others, family connections helped a bit.

@billcsho From what you are saying, it seems like if you are advising me against going early. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am also considering going early for Harvard. What do you think?

If you decided not to retake ACT after October, there is not much going to be different if you wait till RD. Then you should apply SCEA.

Just wondering how you were able to be in Shanghai and Los Angeles at the same time in July and Aug. 2015

@Falcon1 when I was working for IBM in shanghai, I was still working for UCLA remotely.

I see, Make sure you indicate this on your app because any AO would have the same question. You seem like an interesting candidate. Good luck!
