Seems like Stanford is opening up it’s undergrad summer session to high school students under the name of “Stanford High School Summer College”… The courses are taught by Stanford professors and students take classes with undergrads…
Is this program worth going / rigorous / looks good on college apps / is it a scam? It is hella expensive tho. If you got into both MIT Launch and this, which one would you go?
It’s expensive because you are getting regular college credit. It’s no scam. The problem is that, unless you end up at Stanford, there is no guarantee that the credit will be accepted at another institution. However, you will get a transcript showing that you took a regular college course. That’s good, but may not be worth the money.
@BelleofAmherst Thanks for replying! I’m actually interested in the courses (much better than APs ha), and do you think if I try hard in the program and get a good rec letter from the professors will help on college apps?
@0x0001 I went there last summer ('16). It was amazing and I will never forget it. I think it does look good on college apps (even though I was rejected from Stanford lol) but if you are just doing it for the credit and for the bragging rights then you’re doing it for the wrong reason. You will make great friends and create amazing memories. Yes, the classes are challenging and midterms/finals are stressful but they push you so much more than HS classes, and you just learn more.
This vs MIT? Stanford is probably the most beautiful campus in the world, amazing weather, right next to SF (with regular trips) and some of the friendliest people you’ll meet.
I got a rec from my Physics prof, but i guess that didnt help. He sent it to other colleges though so we will see…
