8 golds for the Stanford women’s swim team alone… unbelievable!

Fear the Tree

It’s only 7 gold medals in swimming, The eighth in their count was for a woman on the heavyweight 8 crew.

I also couldn’t tell from the story whether they were double (or triple) counting relay medals. I think not, but it wasn’t 100% clear. Given that Missy Franklin got a gold medal for swimming earlier heats in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay, Stanford had three gold medalists in that race alone. So I don’t think they could have counted all three and still only got to seven, with everything else Ledecky, DiRado, and Manuel won.

Ooops. Forgot Franklin went to The Other School.

If she had only believed in the “tree”

On a side note, it is great to see Stanford making all the good noise associated with swimming after being in news for all the wrong reasons.

.

Katie Ledecky is different from the others as she took a gap year and has not actually enrolled at Stanford yet . . . nonetheless a very impressive performance by her and everyone.

Stanford athletes won an incredible 27 medals at the Olympics… a new record haul for the Card and the most medals and the most golds of any university in the world. Cal is second:)
