Stanford Music Submissions

How significant are the music recommendations? Do the adcoms see it or just the music faculty?

The music faculty evaluates your submission. If they rank you highly, it becomes a factor in admissions. If not, it is not supposed to hurt you.

yeah mine aren't GREAT.
they're pretty good but the recording is bad quality.
so that's good that they won't hurt =P

Awesome! Thanks for the info nngmm! I spent almost 10 hours (if not more) on the music part. I'm pretty confident in my submission, so I'm glad it will be worth something in admissions. Hopefully the faculty rates it highly.

Does anyone know whether it matters if I have sent in international vocal versus English vocal? I mean, I'm not sure if they even have faculty who work specifically with, say, Indian or Chinese music...

nngmm, do you know whether the rec is included as part of the ranking or do they just evaluate my playing?

I don't know. Rec is a new thing they added this year.
My feeling is that it is mostly to weed out submissions by "self-proclaimed" artists/musicians, and you will still be judged on your performance.

yahoo,
if you feel that the LETTER is extremely important in your case, you can submit it as an "extra" (3rd) letter of recommendation, regardless of audition. Although, if you want your "musical talent" to play a role (as opposed to dedication/character/whatever else the letter highlights), it is the audition that counts.
