For those of you who were accepted to the online school at stanford, I have a ton of questions. do you know how selective the admissions process is? could you post your stats so that I can see what kind of students are accepted? Are the classes hard? there are many more questions, but these are the main ones I want to tackle at the moment. If anyone is willing to inform me more about the online high school, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

My son is in the inaugural class (admitted last year). The students appear to have great stats and a great work ethic. The classes are plenty challenging for everyone, and most of the students have deep involvement in extracurricular activities.

I think EPGY Online High School is a great experience for a young learner and recommend it. What else would you like to know?

thanks for commenting. im extremely nervous because the early decision deadline is approaching and i havent sended my application yet. I am wondering:do you think there is a chance for me? I have never taken any online courses or have never participated in academic competitions. other than that, i recieved a 2050 on the SAT, i am ranked 83 in the nation in tennis, and i am sending a recording of me playing "the maple leaf rag" at a piano recital. I have all A's on the transcript I am sending, and I am also Peruvian/Bolivian, but i dont know if they gave preference to URMs. Is there anything else you think i should present when applying that would seem impressive? please tell me if I have a chance or not! thanks tokenadult

I think you have a chance. The SAT score looks good for someone still in high school. It would definitely be worthwhile to apply.

thanks a lot. that really eased my anxiety. Did your son have to do an interview for the admissions commitee? and one other thing: i was reading an article on the web that talked about the online high school, and it said that the teacher gives a lecture once and some students from different countries have had to stay up until 1 AM !!!??!!

My son didn't, but that may be because he had already been an EPGY distance learning student for a few years, and thus was known to some people in the program.

Yes, the class discussion sections run at reasonable (somewhat early) hours in the United States Pacific Time Zone, which means that they are convenient for students in most parts of the United States during the school day. Some of the students in east Asia stay up pretty late to match the schedule of the online discussion sections. They seem to think that that is well worth their time.

Ok............so because i come from Houston, my earliest class would be around 10 AM and my latest class will be around 4 PM(we are 2 hours ahead of Stanford time). Am I correct?

You're in the same time zone I'm in. Yes, most of the online discussion sections for you would be during normal school hours. The one thing to look out for would be any afternoon activities you have locally. My son has a math class that meets locally from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Central on certain days of the week, and he can't participate in EPGY OHS discussion sections at that hour, nor up to two hours before because of transportation issues some days.

eeesh......that might be a problem.....I play tennis on mon/wed/fri from 4:30 to 7:00. What exactly is done in the OHS disscussion sessions? and can you recieve an official transcript at the end of the school year?

Im sorry if I am annoying you with all these questions. Please tell me to stop if you are getting annoyed.
