because seriously if your biggest problem is that you've already been admitted to stanford and can't decide whether or not to apply to princeton too then you're pretty darn lucky. anyway, good luck.

It's easy. Can you go to Stanford without applying to Princeton and have no regrets? If yes, then don't bother applying. If no, then apply.

^^Please don't re-start the argument.

As for the main point of the thread, I think Stanford and Princeton have two of the best undergraduate programs in the world. First, it largely depends on what you want to study. Stanford is probably better at engineering while Princeton is probably better at math. You should probably visit the schools and ask students studying what you want to study how the department is. How big are classes? Do professors care? Is it research-intensive? Is it more theoretically or practically oriented? etc. (You could also message someone who's in the department of that school and just ask them that way. Maybe use Facebook or something.)

As for the campuses, Stanford and Princeton are both beautiful, but in different ways (the former I know from experience, the latter from stories). They're both in kind of a rich, not-very-college-friendly town. Princeton is more undergrad-focused, but Stanford allows you to take advantage of the resources of its grad schools (e.g. take classes, do research, etc.). The main reason I decided against Princeton was the air of elitism I perceived (eating clubs and the like). Stanford, despite being a very elite institution, manages to remain incredibly quirky, down-to-earth, and friendly.

I can't see how I would end up anywhere else besides Stanford. I love everything about it. Princeton is great, maybe a little too waspy, but I most likely wouldn't even get in. I'm siding against not even applying now. I'd have to finish the essay that I was half way through when I got the Stanford email and shat myself.

^^Good choice. ^.^

GimmeStanford, that last sentence had me laughing for two minutes straight. Good stuff... LOL.

GS, you have your answer! Congratulations on finding your college!

I honestly don't see why you put this thread in the Stanford forum if you wanted a fair assessment. Plus, you should make the decision.

If other people in your high school are really hoping for Princeton, and you're essentially locked into Stanford, I wouldn't apply.

However, if you're really the only person who has any business applying to either, and you think there's a decent chance you might pick Princeton, then I suppose it would be ok.

Just remember to draw the line between what you are and what you want to be seen as.

Baelor, youre the man

Actually, based on everything of yours I've seen, I would say you have a greater than 50% chance of being accepted at Princeton as well.

I would choose Stanford over Princeton solely on the weather! haha. Anyway, I'm not one to ask because I'm not really a fan of East coast schools, while they probably aren't as pretentious as they seem to me, I have always gotten that vibe. I'm content with the Midwest or West I guess! :).

D chose Stanford over Harvard last year.... search in posts and you will find an extensive discussion about this choice form last spring.

I would pick Stanford probably, simply because Stanford has awesome weather and that Princeton has Grade deflation. No more than 35% of people in a department get As, which means u'll be working ur butts off at Princeton. Stanford's more laid back. Check out Stanford's opencourseware initiative and check out some of the classes. See if you like them..

I would apply. Why? Princeton is a peer school and it doesn't seem that you are 100% totally sold on Stanford. It doesn't hurt to fill out an application and it only costs seventy bucks. Why lock yourself up now?

STANFORD all the way! by the way Gimmestanford I really admire the fact that you don't gloat or anything, really humble. Thanks

no problem

HYPS tries to avoid the cross-admits. You can google "Harvard Yale Princeton Stanford", and find out a lot of info about last year's cross-admits info. Once you are accepted by one of them, in this case, Stanford, the other three will know and try to avoid you, unless that you are one of the "superstars" -- about 200 of them, I believe, all of them will fight to get you.

frankly, if you dont really want to go to princeton don't apply. every one of us that has already been accepted to Stanford and applies to other schools takes away a spot from someone who wants to go their as their first, best, or only choice.

He's not stealing a spot from anyone. There's something called a waitlist. Frankly if he has any inkling that he may want to attend Princeton over Stanford, I see no reason for him not to apply.
