Is it possible to get into Stanford with like one C from freshmen year, and how so?

Yeah. I’m pretty sure Stanford doesn’t look at freshman year grades. Your C will affect your high school class rank, of course, no way to change that.

It’s been so long ago now, but I’m pretty sure I had a couple B-minuses my freshman year. I definitely wasn’t getting anything near straight As. It happens. The types of people who apply to schools like Stanford generally have pretty solid grades all four years, but not every Stanford or Ivy League admit comes into high school prioritizing academics. My priorities freshman year were friends, sport, and academics, in that order. Well that changed, and by the time senior year rolled around I was a straight A student.

I actually think its insane that many other top colleges give any weight to freshman year grades. From a developmental standpoint, you have some kids who still have not gone through puberty. And then you have students who take longer to adjust to a (generally) larger, more impersonal school setting.
