I want to be accepted to Stanford for a BS in Computer Science, mainly because I plan on working in Silicon Valley as an adult. I’m currently a sophomore, my GPA is pretty good, I’m preparing to ace standardized tests, so I wanted your opinions regarding what I want to do for junior year. Theoretically, would I be competitive for Stanford if I: score a 35+ on the ACT, score 1570+ on the SAT, score an 800 on both of my SAT II’s (Math 2, Chemistry) keep my GPA above 3.8 (4.4 weighted), take AP courses, have a near perfect AMC/AIME index, make MOP, continue to participate on my school’s academic and quiz bowl team, do well on USAMTS, get an 8 on the individual round at ARML, continue to do research in math (publishing my results), participate in my school’s humanitarian club, participate in USACO, continue to stay active in the AoPS community, code apps for Android, develop computer algorithms, etc.
That’s going to be a pretty big deal, especially if you are MOP black this year as a rising junior. Are the invites out yet? (I don’t think so…)
USAMTS and ARML will not count nearly as much as MOP.
I think with those stats you would be competitive for Stanford. No guarantees of course, but there are only going to be 20-25 MOP participants (at most) in any given year’s application pool. Good luck!
