Stanford SCEA vs. Penn ED

I am trying to decide which one to do… I like Stanford more, but I know that Penn gives you a much bigger boost with ED. Is SCEA at Stanford even worth it, or is there not much of a difference with it, compared with Penn? Also does ED give an advantage at Penn when applying to Wharton as well?

You should always, always, always apply early to the one you like most, regardless of your chances.

If you're applying for financial aid, don't apply ED because you are bound to that school if accepted.

I'd like to bump this on behalf of a reliable source and for me. I also like Stanford more than Wharton, but I like Wharton a lot too and wouldn't at all mind going there. Stanford's SCEA admit rate was around 18% I think (regular was 11%). Now here's where I got confused. Penn's regular admit rate was 21% and ED was 34%. However, I have heard that those numbers are not the same for Wharton ED. Apparently Wharton ED admits around 14%. If that's the case, I might as well apply to Stanford early because I like it more and the rate is higher (though still somewhat obscenely low ^_^).

Does anybody know what the deal is with Wharton ED vs. Penn ED?

Wharton's overall acceptance rate this year was 13.6% (it's usually around 15%). I'm not sure of the exact ED figure, but I think it's around 20%. Stanford's SCEA acceptance rate was 19%, I believe, and its overall acceptance rate was 11.9%. The admit rates are comparable, so apply wherever you like. If you're unsure, I'd recommend Stanford EA and Penn RD. That way, you wouldn't be binding yourself to a school too early, and if you get into both, you can choose later on. This'll also help in negotiating financial aid offers.

Thanks a lot, ForeverZero. That helped a ton.

ForeverZero has a good point, but Stanford is SCEA, so you can't choose which one you like better; if you get in, you're going there. Which isn't a bad thing.

^ I think you're mixing SCEA up with ED. You don't have to go to Stanford if you get in.

ohhhhhhhh right. I was confused because you can only apply to Stanford EA, no other schools.

Go for Stanfie. you prefer it, and in both cases the admit rates for applying early are about the same boost :p

Is money going to be an issue? If yes, then apply to Stanford as you would still be open to compare offers and packages from other schools. You give up this option applying ED. What happens if the money is not right? Penn will only let you out to attend State U.

Got to go with your first choice
