So i am a freshman at stanford university. I am all premed and am starting to believe that stanford is not the right place for that. I am from new jersey and am missing home really badly. I do not really like the stanford "bubble" thing nor do i like the duck syndrome they have here. It makes the people seem fake. For these reasons, I wish to transfer to columbia. Now considering that I am going to get a C in general chem and other grades that are B and higher, what are my chances?

I mean Stanford is on the same level as Columbia so putting my current college gpa aside, do you think I have a better chance than the average transfer student who is probably coming from a cc or a state school?

Just out of curiosity, why do you think stanford isn’t right for premed? Stanford is my dream school (applied REA), and I plan to do premed. Is there really a “bubble” or duck syndrome/fake thing there? Nobody I’ve seen on CC has mentioned anything like that before for Stanford.

I really don’t know how your transfer chances might fair. The fact that you’re coming from Stanford should give you an edge over most other transfer applicants, but I also know that the acceptance rate of transfers is very small. Having a C and Bs doesn’t seem like anything exceptional, but then again, I don’t know if those grades are actually quite decent for the courses you’re taking/grade inflation.

It’s too bad that Stanford isn’t a good fit for you It must really suck to have high expectations and then want to transfer to a different school

My bad for taking so long to answer but seeing as how college decisions have not been made this should still help. Take my perspective with a grain of salt. I am very different. I’m from the east coast and I too thought that Stanford was my dream school. I used to call it paradise. But the bubble is real and sometimes it can feel suffocating if you are from a place that is close to New York or a big city like it. And Stanford students have a lot of pride. You will see, if you get in, that the duck syndrome is real also and everybody likes to pretend that they are happy. Don’t get me wrong as many of them really are, but when everybody is flaunting that fake smile on a day where everything possible is going wrong for you…it gets very annoying.

My advice: go to admit weekend if you get in. maybe stay a couple extra days. try to see the classes that you would take as a freshman here like chem for example. And then make the decision. BUT trust me when I say this. DO NOT LET ANYBODY INFLUENCE YOUR DECISION. If you gonna choose Duke or UChicago over Stanford…Do it. An education is an education and what matters most is being happy where you are at for four years.
